Hi, i have a 97 firebird 3.8/ 5 speed.... the car drives fine usually but sometimes out of no where hesitates. by hesitates i mean im driving at 2500 rpm in 3rd gear for example and suddenly the car slows down for a brief second and gains power again causing it to kind of bounce while i drive. mind you the car rpm does not chng from 2500 during this eradic behavior (and the clutch is fairly new). after a few "quick bounceys" the check engine light comes on, but by the time i reach a mechanic (i was at a mechanic shop an hour after it came on, today) the check engine light disappears. now i given it a full tune up/ chng air flow sensor/ chnged intake manifold gasket. and still the same problem, some one please HELP ME!!!

That CEL code should be in history, find out what it is and post back. BTW, who is doing the work and diagnosis on this car, how were these repairs arrived at, was this the original problem??

maybe its your ECU. i was reading the book on 3rd gens and your ECU has a lean-mix setting, when ur letting off gas and its slowing, it almost shuts off your fuel injectors to get better gas mileage. maybe thats screwing up..i know urs is 4th gen, but hell...GM's prolly using the same technology..

it sounds like a fuel problem like a dirty fuel filter or maby the fuel pump. Also make sure the engine temerature sensor is connected good on the block for the computer b/c it tells the computer how much air/fuel it needs depending on temp, b/c my car had that problem and it studderd like that
