common rot areas

what are the common areas prone to rot on these cars? i have an 87 and i just want to prevent whatever i can.

rear quarters, door sills, edges of doors

Fenders... specifically coming up from the chrome trim, and the front fenders where the fiberglass nose meets the metal. Under the doors, and the corners of the doors (see my post on door rot repair) The rail along the upper back door (Where the smaller window sits). The chassis where the control arm meets the frame. ALL brake lines and gas lines. Floor pans (won't notice until its too late unless you're under the car often).

thanks guys. i just got my car, its nearly mint and im petrified of it rotting (i live in massachusetts). i want to keep this car for as long as i can, once i dont drive it daily, its getting a 502 big block. i think i may spray the chassis with oil for the winter. is this a good idea?

fenders seem to be the last thing to go

on the older ones they like to rot all way through across top of winshield frame behind the chrome

coat the inside under the carpet there too

Yeah, I forgot about the windshield frame... my car actually had some rot through up there at the top when I had my windshield replaced. Pack the upper area of the windshiled with grease and then put the chrome trim back on.

Oh yeah, and if your gonne cover the chassis with something, use grease instead of oil because oil will wash away over the course of maybe a month, maybe more, maybe less, depending how much weather your car is faced with.
