Squeaking brakes

I put on semi-metallic brake pads a few months ago and they were squeaking about a month after that. It's really annoying. Is there pads that I can get that will make less noise? I've heard that some semi-metallics have "high metal count." I have had the brakes checked numerous times and all mechanics say the brakes are good and look just fine. I need new back pads now, so I wanted to get all four new ones to eliminate the front squeaking. I just need to know...semi-metallic again, ceramic, or kevlar metallic? Oh and the front rotors have been replaced too.

you can try some anti squeal i put ceramic pads on me explorer wich tamed the squealing but ceramic is for more aggressive braking they will not work if your soft on the pedal but you can try a pad from satisfied called pro-quite i believe i have never used them but i hear they are good

Thanks, I went ahead and replaced them all with ceramic pads. I do have to be a bit more aggressive but the squealing is gone. I also got new rotors for the back, so the braking feels good now.

I was driving today, the first day with the ceramics and found that there was no bite to my braking. It didn't feel like it would reliably stop in a good distance, even when i hit the brakes hard. I don't know what would be causing this...bleed the brake lines? The fluid seems to be at a good level.

like i said ceramics are for agressive brakers they work on heat so if your light on the pedal they never get hot enough to work properly so it seams like it dont want to stop try being real agressive with the pedal all the time for a wile before you start swaping parts to try to find a problem that just may be your to light on the pedal

I would advise that you change the pads back to semi-metallics and get the rotors turned, also if you still have the other pads, take a file and ruff the pad up a bit. Your sqeeling sound is more than likly happening because your rotors and / or pads are glazed over( happens when your braking allot (in town/ or high speeds) My wifes Protege had the same problem with teh squeeling and the braking ability, I turned the rotors and cleaned the pad surface, and all is working very well.

thanks for the advise, i went back and he "burned" them a bit to help the braking in process, also I had the rotors turned. It's better than it was, and i do brake more aggressively now. Being that I just had him install the best pads he could i'm not wanting to buy new semi-metallics, however, in the future I will follow your advise.
