Help in Canada

Me again,

Im planning on changing my intake gaskets (upper and lower) in a couple of weeks when the semester is over, finding new ones of them isnt a problem. I strongly suspect that the leak is caused by the plenum being degraded on my car, since it seems to be a common problem.

Ive seen places that sell "new and redesigned" plenums that address the original design flaw, and also a kit by Jay-Co ( i think) that can be used to fix the original plenum. Only problem is, i cant find anywhere in canada that sells the redesigned plenums, and only the dealers have the original parts for about 250$. The company that makes the repair kit is based in Canada, but doesnt sell to individuals and i havent found any stores that sell them either.

My question, does anyone know where in Canada i get get these parts ?? Most ebay companies or online companies (ie gm parts direct) wont ship to canada. I dont want to be stuck paying dealer prices, ive seen the new plenum for only 120$ US online, but i cant get it here :-(

Any help would be great,

Thanks in advance

-Steve

How much is $250 CDN in USD? Maybe Richtazz can help out or someone on the forum you trust. Any problems getting these parts through customs?

there are always tax and import duties to pay though, so i was looking my side of the border first. Oh and that was 258$ CAD the parts guy at the dealer quoted me, which is about 220$ US.

I can sell you a Delphi upper plenum for around $120 US. I assume your car is a 3800, not a 3100. I can ship to canada, but it is your responsibility to declare the value for duty purposes. PM me if you are interested and we can go from there.

What I can't understand is the farther North you get the more you get charged or ripped on car parts or repairs. It appears the Canadian bros, are paying double for parts. What's the reasoning? I can see that if you need a dog sled team to transport parts. All we have separating the US/Canadian border is an imaginary line and a few Great Lakes. :dunno:

NAFTA works great down here. I feel for you guys.

thanks wylie for the link, but ive phoned up the napa stores around here and they all say the plenum is dealer only :(

I may well take you up on that offer Rich, but im going to call up the customs and import people here first and see if i can get an idea of how much it is to get it across the border. I ordered a code reader from the states a few weeks back, only cost me the 7% tax, but when i ordered a freon top up can in the summer, it ended up costing me double. Ill get back to you shortly.

As for NAFTA...well lol, from our point of view, its a little one-sided (*cough*softwood lumber, canadian beef*cough*). We ar ejust to nice to do anything about it :)

A little too nice.....eh! But you are guys are always welcome at my dinner table.

BTW - The Mexicans down here love NAFTA. It is what keeps the border cities alive and Autozone doing a brisk business.

I'd like to see how Wylie weighs in. He's a little radical at the same time cool but will definitely say his piece of mind.

TO NICE! ya well I'm trying to change that, I've bin to almost every state and theres a few that told me not to come back the rest I'll revisit.
Its slow going but I'm making progress.

It would be nice to have Autozone here,we have these knock off stores that look like them but don't provide the same service.

Thanx for the invite bnaylor3400: I'll be down in Texas- February I'll bring the beer.

Here in Michigan, we see our manufacturing jobs going to Mexico and China(how do you compete with $2/hr wages) and trash being imported (thanks to our Canadian-born Governess) from Canada. So basically, Mexico gets our jobs, and we get Canada's garbage (no offense rbsteve). What is up with that???? Thanks NAFTA and our non-existent tariffs on 3rd world country Imports.

you might be able to talk to a shop and have them order it for you (thus getting around the "don't sell to individuals" thing) ... but it doesn't sound like you are more looking for the redesigned plenum instead of the kit...

just a suggestion though. good luck

I never agreed with the NAFTA thing ether,as far as Toronto garbage going over to Michigan I haven't figured that one out yet ether other than somebody over there is filling their pockets with money and will probably disappear when the hole is full.
I wish we could throw our Politicians on the next load over there and you can bury them as well.
I think they've all lost their dam minds over here, their all worried about whose going to be king and nobody seems to be running the country.

Sounds like the same situation here. Our Governess is originally a Canuck, so I think that's how the garbage thing got so messed up. It started out just certain things, now it's everything. I wouldn't piss on her to put her out if she was on fire. (That has nothing to do with her being Canadian) I love Canada, you give our Red Wings good hockey players, :lol2:

That may explain it,shes in bed with the Liberals check her pockets and don't send her back here.
It is a good country here its just our politicians SUCK.
But i guess they all do.

When you do the math, it's not hard to figure out they are all crooked. For example, she spent over $2 million on her campaign, for a job that pays $110k/year for 4 years. Hmmm, think there is some kickbacks and payola going on? If not, she's $1.6 million in the hole, and that doesn't make sense unless this is new math that us commoners don't get. Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack this thread with a political discussion.

Here's another NAFTA perspective. People think that Jay Leno stereotypes Mexicans flocking to Walmart stories but it's true. You should see the boxes of anti-freeze, motor oil and other auto parts these people cram in their trunks, vans and SUVs. Most are able to make it back across the border without paying any tariffs. But you can't blame them because the auto parts are cheaper in the US.

One thing cheaper over there is getting laid......lol. :lol2:
