Hung with a cammed Chevelle!

Saturday night and we're at the usual meet-up. Everyone is lined up along side the street...ahead is an empty road, behind is an endless line of parked cars. We're just chilling watching the bikes screw around while we wait for a few the bikes to stop screwing around so we can get to racing when some kid driving a Chevelle walks up to my brother and asks to race. My brother declines (pussyyyy) because the Chevelle driver says he has a cam, exhaust, and intake. After my brother declines I tell him I'll race him. He asks what I have and I reply "NT Talon," and so after about 10 minutes of me convincing him that it's not a turbo and popping my hood to show him my mods, we make a U-ie and line up. I wait near the start line for him and when he finally rolls up making my entire car rumble I'm like "Well fuck. I'm gonna get owned."

He does his burnout, which sucked but I can't do better, so I can't criticize, lol. I rev it up to ~5-6k and drop it, hold it, then let go and the flagger lines us up. One hand up, the Chevelle revs her up and I feel the ground shaking around me again and I'm reminded how badly I'm going to get my ass kicked. His other hand comes up so I rev my baby up to 4k RPMs and hold it there letting him know I'm ready, then his arms are down and we're off!

I drop the clutch out 75% and light the tires up and so does the Chevelle. I wait for her to grab traction then dump the rest of the clutch and put the pedal on the floor. I'm already at 7k RPMs and slam her into 2nd, pulling the car to the left. I've jumped the Chevelle off the line (I was really surprised) and held my nose until we hit 50 and he started pulling me. I shift into 3rd at 7k RPM and he pulls just a nudge more on me, then we shut ti down at 95 with him a half car ahead.

I was really impressed with how the Talon performed! This is my first real race in a long time, and the first race with my mods (Pilot Motorsports intake, custom cat-back, Catco Hi-flow cat., Hedman header). I had several people walk up to me and ask what I had done that night, and many tip of the hats and comments from the muscle car drivers the rest of the night. This was the first time I've really appreciated what I've put into the Talon so far!

Fast forward 15 minutes. Myself, my brother, and my friend Scott are sitting in the back of my brother's truck watching the crotch rockets and some more muscle cars go at it. Then there's a silence for about 5 minutes, no one is racing or even lining up. I just kinda mutter "Let's race, Tyler." (my brother) I didn't think he heard me but he replies a long 30 seconds later, "Alright."

I pull my car out and do a shitty burnout, just barely chirping the tires. He powerbreaks it and does a mean burnout, pulling his rearend sideways. He's drive a 91 Chevy 350 shortbed with dumped flowmasters and an Afro Engineering intake (lol). The flagger lines us up then checks to see if we're ready. I reel her up to 4k RPM again, then he pulls his arms down and I let the clutch out to 75% again. I light the tires up again then feel it begin to grab traction so I finish letting the clutch out, but don't give it enough gas and bog my launch. Fuck! I push my foot hard to the floor and feel her begin to awaken from only 3k RPMs. Get in the powerband, damnit! She finally pulls up into 4k+ RPMs and look up to see how far ahead my brother is---that was a mistake. My hand is resting at 12 o' clock on the steering wheel and I hear the car get closer to 7k RPMs, but I'm too busy thinking about my shitty launch and geting caught back up and don't think to move my arm where I can see the tach. I shift then lift my arm and see I only shifted at 6.2k rpm! Shit, that's too early! I look up and he's 2 cars ahead, but I'm back into my powerband and begin pulling him hard!

I reel the Talon out to 7k rpm and bang her into third and start pulling serious ground on the truck, and by the end of third I've just barely got a nose on him and we shut it down.

He still doesn't believe I put a nose on him even after talking with a few cars chilling at the line to call the winners of the close races (like ours) who told us I just barely had him, but he won't take the loss. I tell him that if he did win and knows he can beat me, he'll race me again. He agrees and as we're lining up and I rev it up, I suddenly see rainbows in my rearview mirror! FUCK cops!! I pull over to the empty side of the road and he blows past me going after the couple that raced before us, so I make a U-ie and haul ass out of there, as I'm leaving I see a sea of headlight light up and begin to follow me. We all head back to our chillspot for the rest of the night then head home early in the morning.

So. When you say 'cammed', you mean the car happened to have cams, but only ran on three cylinders right?

Because any self-respecting car guy who would take the time to cam his car, won't be running in the 16's which is where your car should be.

What kind of engine did that Chevelle have? Your car probably won't run better than high 15s, and if the Chevelle had the original tired engine with cams, than maybe you may have beaten him.

Depends on what kind of engine the chevelle had. I could believe it had bad gearing on on top of an old engine.

Sounds like the settings for fast and the furious with cars all lined up and motorcylces doing stuff.

2. I don't know what engine he had, which is why I mentioned I wanted to talk to him some more. It was probably some shitty 305 or weak old 350. Regardless, he barely beat me. It's not like I'm claiming I pulled 50 cars on him.

3. I guess you can say it was kind of like the F&F bullshit (how we were setup...) but minus all the gay cars. If you don't believe me that's fine, but this meet goes on every Saturday night in Keller, TX. We meet up at N Beach St then go to a few select locations that the cops won't bother us at until someone calls them.

5. I'm not going to tell you the Chevelle did his burnout because he had drag radials because I don't know for sure, but I think he did. Like I said, I didn't get the chance to talk to him more because there were a lot of cars that wanted to race him.

Beach eh...wanna run sometime before sunday? CVG in the house...seriously...I can check this guy out if anyone needs to, I'll be heaidng to Beach Street on Friday after I go to this Mediteranian place in DTFW. And I can confirm the set up, Beach does have basically an impromtu car show every Friday and Saturday night out by a Starbucks before the racing starts.

as for the cammed chevelle...sometimes i don't go 100% w/ people just so that they dont' think i'm quite as fast... its kinda like how sleepers work, they don't seem quite as fast as they are

now...apply that to the chevelle, he's got plenty other people to race and waiting for it, so if he completely stomps you he'd not only humiliate you, but also nobody would want to race him anymore, any fast car around here only races once, then nobody feels like trying

Well, any race between us wouldnt be till December, unless he wants to run me in my mom's Benz. Anyways, hit me with a PM ---, and we can work something out or somtin. Also, I can see if I can find the Chevelle, no promises unless he shows up Friday. I would come out Saturday, but I already made plans to go watch my highschool football team play for state in TAPPS.

And like I said, I don't go out there on Fridays (are the meets as big on Fridays as they are on Saturdays?), so I can't tell you whether or not he'll be out there tomorrow, but I see him almost every Saturday.

Friday nights were more showing off and chilling before the weekend, Saturdays were always the big night where you could get a run. Does the guy with the Black 'Busa still hang out out there? Well I get off at 10 Friday, but I also live all the way in Crowley, which is another reason I don't head out on Fridays. That's a hell of a drive to go to a small meet and use that much gas. If Friday night is the only night you're going to make it out in a long while, I'll see what I can do to make it out there...what color is your friend's ES300? Is it the blood red/maroon one?

Yes there's a black Busa that still goes out there, that thing is badass.
I see a black Supra every once in a while, but fo the most part they (the Supras) don't come out until real late after I've left (I work early Sunday mornings so I never stay out past 1-2).
Kan? The name doesn't ring a bell but I don't know a whole lot of people out there...I'm assuming he's Asian, and the only Asians I've seen out there with really sick cars are a guy with a red Eclipse who is supposedly pushing ~500hp, and a real nice RHD 240sx.

Oh him! Heall yeah I know who you're talking about, his car is badass. I've talked to him on Dallasimports.net before, he may be doing the turbo install on my Talon. His RX-7 is clean as shit, and sounds mean.

Yes some asian in a R34 Skyline comes out there, but all he does is park, pop his hood while every single person in the parking lot comes to check his car out and get some pictures, then he heads out. I don't blame him really, with a car that rare you never know who is going to follow you and attempt to steal it or even vandalize it.

Yeah there's a RHD 240 out there, but he hasn't been out in a while. Last I saw he had it for sale (saw his ad on dallasimports.net) so he may have sold it already.

The last couple of weeks have been big meets, but not much racing (while I'm there anyway, I leave early). I was supposed to race a stock Golf GTI and some Del Sol a couple of weeks ago but the cops ran us off and I haven't had the chance to talk to them again yet.

Dallasimports is a great bunch of people, there's members from all over and they always have meets going on. You'd like it...as for the Classifieds, you have to be registered and have either 50 posts or be a donator to even see them.

haha all I did was read the title, see what car you have then just scrolled down to read what I would know would be obvious bs calls. I think its more fun reading about how many people decide the story can't be true than reading the actual story.
