Instant CEL problems

I drove my car to and from work today with no problems. Then when i went to start my car about 30 min after getting home, the car had a hard time starting. It took me two turns of the key to get it going and when it started it was idling very rough. So i decided to drive it to school see what the deal was. Half way into my trip the CEL light went on and hasnt went off since. The car is fine when above 1000rpms but anything under , like idling, the car hesitates. I looked around the froum and saw that it could be the egr valve. But what do u guys think. Also where can i go toget the codes pulled from the odb?

btw its a 99 v6 4x4

autozone witll pull the codes for free.

it could be a plugged EGR, or the intake Manifold gasket went bad (these are the two most common problems on +98 Isuzu's).

Yep. Sounds like a bad IMG.

How much am i looking at for a new IMG. Im going to autozone today to have the codes pulled. Ill post when i get the codes.

350-400 is what I think I've seen posted.

it is about 40 bucks for the 2 gaskets and then like 2.5 hours of labor (an isuzu tech could do this in under 2, but still bill you for 2.5).

When I had my IMG's replaced it was slightly under $300. They did give me a minor break on the price though, because of all the other work I had done. If they try and charge you over $350, go somewhere else.

If it was the img would it be a constant problem. At higher rpms the car drives perfectly. Im only having problems with idling.

At higher RPM's mine was fine too. It was just at idle that was a problem. It is worth getting looked at as the IMG is a known problem on these vehicles.

Alright, im going to get the codes pulled tomorrow and check the egr and iac. If those dont work then ill be finding a mechanic. Thanks guys. Ill keep ya posted.

I went to wall mart tonight and bought the code reader. The two codes i got were p0402 and p1404. So after seeing what they were it looks like its definately the egr valve. Now could those codes mean anything else though?

That looks like it is all EGR. Give it a good cleaning. Make sure you get the pintle freed up, I bet it is carbed up and not moving. Look at the FAQ for the steps on cleaning the EGR, it's easy.

Thats exactly what i wanted to hear. Im going to drop by pepboys tomorrow and buy some carb cleaner and give it a good spray. Hopefully it works. If not ill post some more of my fustrations. Haha

After the spray the car is idling perfect. I cleared the codes with my reader and took the car for a drive. No cel and the idle is even better then normal. No more high idles or anything to that nature. The real test will come tomorrow as im doing my t-day traveling. Thanks alot guys for your help. This forum continues to save me so much time and money.
