Hi All!
I have a '93 GM LS that has an occasional stalling problem. It happens only at idle and usually after being driven for several miles. The idle starts to slow down and get a little rough and then it stalls. I start it right back up and usually it doesn't happen again the same day.
I have run several cans of SEAFOAM through the fuel tank and have sprayed the Intake Butterfly area. Does this sound like an EGR replacement/cleaning problem, Throttle Position Sensor, O2 Sensors or something else. I don't have any code info so I can 't narrow it down. Suggestions?? By the way, plugs, air filter and wires are good. Fuel filter has about 15k miles on it and I was thinking of changing it just to make sure.....MB

Thanks for the reply! Don't know about any codes - I have no means to read them. I was thinking about running a can of SEAFOAM thru the PCV hose just to see if that gets any results. Also a can in the fuel tank. Thoughts????

is your check engine light on at all? anf my personal thought would be the idle air control motor or iac for short

Thanks Cobra! The Check Engine Light does NOT come on! Would it come on if the IAC was bad??

i think it might not sure sorry for the late replys but it is a common problem on these cars and with yours being a 1993 that would be my guess

You have the 5.0, correct? I'd suspect the idle air control valve. It's on the intake manifold, sitting at a 45* angle. I had the same problem on my '86, replaced it and the idle came back to normal with no stalling. The part was about $75.

actually it has the 4.6L cuz all mercs and vics alike past 1991 and to date have the 4.6 engine were the iac would be located on ur 1993 is on the drivers side of the intake manifold bearyed under the wiper module and its hard to get to another way to find it is to fallow the hose that gos from the intake hose (which conects the filter to the throttle body) its the second hose ( the one that doesnt go to the valve covers) and it gos right to the motor

Thanks and I mean MANY THANKS to ALL of you that have offered solutions! I changed the fuel filter along with a new set of Bosch Plat Plugs and new spark plug wires. I believe the wires were the problem as it is running much better and so far has not stalled. I still think the idle could be a little smoother but I have only used the car once so I need to check it out better. I also ran the SEAFOAM thru the PCV Hose and replaced the "T" between the PCV and engine. It had a hole in it so I think I had multiple problems. Let's see what happens....by the way, the plugs were very clean although they had about 40-50K on them!! Wonder if the SEAFOAM cleaned them??
