loss of electrical power

I have very little mechanical knowledge. I live in Anchorage Alaska and I can not get my Blazer to start. There doesn't seem to be any power. when I turn the key absolutely nothing happens. My head lights do not come on or anything. I drove it the night before and it ran fine. What might cause such a loss of power?

First of all. What kind of car are you driving? Year , model, ect. Right off the top of my head, I would say check your battery and connections.

Did you take a look at your battery and connections? If the battery check out. Take a look at your fuse panel. If I remember correctly, you have a battery fuse in there. Let me know where your at.

Whats the rating, 650 amps?

I'd guess a bad battery, or as Gabe suggests, check your battery connections.

To test the battery, if you have jumper cables, try jumping it. If you get power, most likely your battery bit it.

OK Mike, You got me. I ment to say Engine Fuse. Don't know were my mind was at. I guess that's what's call as a senior moment. :rofl:

Isnt 1995 one of the years that they put a crappy ignition switch in thoese? How long did you try to jump it for? If the battery is dead dead, it may take a minute or two to come around. Are you sure you had a good ground when you tried to jump it? :cya:

With nothing electrical working, I'd then look at the Positive cable (assuming you put the ground jumper directly to the frame-not the battery) You may just have something as simple as a bad connection right at the battery.

No, '97 is the switch bastid. 95 has a completely different setup.

If the battery is open in side. It will never be able to jump start. You need to use a volt meter and take a reading of the battery. If your voltage is above 12 volts then you need to trace forward to find your open in the battery conections.

As it turns out it was my battery cables. One needed to be tightened, although I think I may just replace them. Right now the are side posts, I am going to have them mounted on top. Thank you for your help.
