bpt = Mazda's turbo version of the 1.8l in the GT, 180hp

The US only had 1.6 GTX's in the 323's.
You have to look to Japan to find a 1.8 GTX, you wont find any 1.8 GTX's in any US junk yards.

Yes, and when you do, they come from Japan.

that is correct^^^

or if you wanna wait a little longer and spend about 500-1000$ more have an importer source up a GTR motor... same thing as the bpt but was built for mazda 323's as a limited production vehicle so they could use it in scca competitions... fully race built motors put into a factory vehicle... theres only 2500 ever built.

i thought the bpt had 215hp and the gtr had about 280? i could be wrong...

how much does the 1.8T go for $$$ and does it drop right in to the mounts.

on ebay they go for 800-1200$ varying by the different importers...

the 1.8L bpt is still a regular bp... just with different internals and some slight modifications... meaning it yes, your halfshaft will still mount to the same spot on the back of the block and all the mount will line up perfectly... you will need though either an ecu (which doesnt always come with the motor) or another form of fuel management (a good standalone system is expensive but the gains for tuning are worth it :smokin: )

Actually, it was not for scca competitions, since that's the Sports Car Club of America...

The 323 GTR and GTaE (same thing, the ae was just a stripped-down version of the car) were made to conform to the homologation rules of the WRC. They had approx. 210hp.

The 323 GTX (what most people get the BPT engine from) had approx. 185hp. This was available in Japan, and in Australia, and I think in the UK. The GTR had lots of little things better, like a web-stiffened block, forged internals, sodium-filled exhaust valves, a better intake and exhaust manifold, a bigger turbo, etc...

Here's a good site on info about the GTR (http://members.ozemail.com.au/~kevmo/eng.htm)

I wish I had one. but I just have the GTX. But it goes good enough for now... :)
