clutch / tranny question...

today my mom was driving her boyfriend to work and the car wouldn't shift gears.
so i think it is the tranny my neighbor a mechanic seems to think its the clutch? what does he know :P anyways if it is the tranny is the tranny out of a 95 del sol d16 the same as the one in my car?

First of all, what kind of car do you have? Second, what do you mean by won't shift? Does the stick bind up on something, or is it like it just won't engage? If the car is in gear, and it is slipping, and not engaging, it's the clutch If the stick is binding up, and you hear grinding, and such, then it's the trans.
