Hi, my brother is about to buy a 1990 4wheel drive sr honda prelude. The guy said he's willing to go as low as $2200 (canadian). The car has been owned by two woman , so it hasnt been beat to hell. It starts easy, accelerates and brakes good. I was wondering if there are any problems anyone knows about that these cars usually have. It has 270,000Km on it, but runs well. There is no rust on it, i've checked the wheel wells, in the trunk, under the car ect. The only problem is the radio doesnt work, but that can be replaced. Any thoughts anyone? Btw, It's an automatic, and comes with special rims, and tinted windows. Anyways, any help would be GREAT aprieciated thanks - Andrew

Automatic :(
Are you planning on doing anything to it or using it just as a beater?

Change the timing belt and water pump.

The guy said he replaced the timing belt, and that when they got the car it only had about 210,000 kmh.How often shoudl the belt be replaced, becuase there would be a maximum of about 60km, on the new belt. Also, what usually goes wrong with the water pump? Today when my dad drove the car to pick me up (about 15 minutes away), he said the engine was cold. but then again, its like 3 degree's outside.

If the water pump fails, the engine will overheat and get damaged. Its precautionary. Good luck with it.

It's 4 wheel steering not 4 wheel drive btw. I own a 90 4ws si. good car. handling is phenominal. too bad you got an auto. expect issues with that eventually. keep an eye on the power steering line that runs directly above the exhaust manifold. they had a recall on that bursting and starting a fire . oh and check out preludepower.com it's the bomb 3rd gen lude site.
