I think it's somewhere near 18psi is the Max.

yeah i think 18-20psi would be max. I wouldnt run over 14 or 15 to be safe..

Wow i never thought it would be that much id be happy running 14-15 but how loud could you hear it winding up??

its a turbo, your gonna hear it. With hardpipes and a nice BOV the S15 SR would sound really nice. Id be happier just getting a base S13 redtop and adding more power mods with the money difference of an S15 SR. You pay more money for stuff you could buy aftermarket, such as the S15 turbo and 444cc injectors..

or he could swap it onto the s13 redtop and get the best of both worlds...its been done before

yeah, but if he does that hes going to be buying a used turbo, why not just buy a new aftermarket garrett or IHI... I wouldnt buy it, because of the pain of having a BB turbo, when it comes time for a rebuild (unless if he can find a brand new S15 turbo) but even he did find a new s15 turbo then he'll be running an internally wastegated setup, not my personal favorite. I guess choosing the setup here is all in personal preference, and what your goal is for the car.

well heres my plan for my 1st car buy a s13 non turbo keep it stock then when i get off my p's buy a 180 and do mods to that but upgrading turbo will be 1 of the last things i do so that probably 4 yrs away lol, just curious about the turbo.

your going to pay 775$ for a used OEM turbo, with internal wastegate...when you could go to cheapturbo.com and look around there...

i had the s15 turbo... its cool.. don't over boost it dough.
BTW GET NEW OIL LINES FOR THE BB turbo. NOT the S14 turbo oil lines! the oil pressure in the BB turbo is different then the regular turbo. if u don't do that u will blow up the turbo EVANTUALLY.

if you go to the wreckers you could probably pick the turbo and the oil lines for about 650 plus negotiation probably 600 aud thats $440 usd maybe a bit more but thats fairly good but then again its used.

well the problem i see here is, when you buy a ball bearing turbo, rebuilding is a pain. If you buy a 360* thrust center housing, the rebuild is alot easier, and cheaper. That is why i would say to buy BB turbos new, and 360* at whatever is a good price for condition.

so could you buy a BB turbo new and use it for however long and then when it needs to be rebuilt switch it up to the cheap style?

How often would i have to rebuild if i was running 16psi on the stock spec-r turbo??

dude.... its PAIN to remove the turbo in and out as u blow one after the other, rebuilding turbo is cool but its not to be don often.
if ur blowing turbos then u might look at the set up ur running with. 16 psi all day, humm , get a bigger turbo that can handle 20 psi. don't run turbos on there max efficiency...

by cheap style you mean a thrust bearing type? Why even spend 775$ on the small S15 turbo, when you could just use your money on the T3/T4 with a 360* thrust bearing. The one i was looking at getting was the TO4E with 57trim. These external wastegated turbos require a different type manifold, and downpipe, plus you have to buy an external wastegate. Heres the various routes you could take...
1) You buy the S15 turbo, when it needs rebuild you pay someone else a butload of money to do it, or buy a new unit (most ineffecient and costly route)
2) You buy an S15 turbo, have fun with it till its dead, and then switch over to a non BB type internally wastegated turbo that matchs to your setup (this will be costly, and you would still end up buying two turbos because you waisted the first one)
3) You get the external type setup, and buy one turbo thats not BB and will end up with a much more reliable and cost effective setup.
When you buy a BB turbo, you buying what? 10% faster spool up. So if you have turbo lag untill 4000rpm with a thrust type, paying that much more with a BB would still get you turbo lag till 3600rpm. So far from what i know, BB turbos only offer about 10% quicker spool, and are much less durable/reliable than the 360* setup. Yes you could buy the S15 turbo and have a great time, but in the long run you'll probably want to change and will have waisted all that money. It just doesnt seem worth it to go BB...

yeah 20psi on a T25, is like 8psi on a T04 (not literally, but you get what im saying). Dont just try to get the small turbo and run it at max, try to run the most effecient turbo for your driving style, and goals for the car...

ok i see how it goes. but i was kinda just asking like if you could get a good deal on a BB one, just to go for it, and then if you wanted to be cheap later you could have it rebuilt to the 360 thrust style.

I dont think that would work, the center housings are a different design. Out of all the turbos ive scrapped and rebuilt, i havent seen one that would appear to have similar center housings to rebuild to the other kind. Plus it would probably require a new shaft, center housing, and compatibility issues if you tryed to take a BB turbo and convert it to a thrust bearing type turbo.. Im not sure if that answered your question...
