Speed-related noise...not engine?

I spent all afternoon attempting to pinpoint and repair my buddy's noise problem on his '95 Talon. Was sure it was exhaust, and found several loose, rattling heat shields. Remove or tightened them, then took a test drive. Noise still there. On a whim, told friend to shut off engine while still moving. THe noise remained!! It starts at about 30 mph, and disappears around 70. RPMs have no effect. Ity sounds like a rubbing or an exhaust "gurgle" but clearly isn't. COming from driver side rear, where the exhaust pipe is. Any ideas?

Also, I should add that I examined the rear of the car and found no evidence of anything rubbing. Pulled the wheel, and saw no problems. Only thing that seems out of order is the plastic on the rear bumper. Seems a little loose in one spot....could air be getting under the plastic and vibrating the bumper? Seems unlikely but I have eliminated all other causes.

How are the tires? If they are worn, uneven tire wear, or chops, they will make noises. I got that bad on all of my tires and wheels

Tires are good. I'm just realizing that the noise is almost certainly a bad ball bearing in the wheel. I won't have a chance to look at it again until this weekend, so if anyone has other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks.

are they aftermarket rims and tires? i have pretty bad road noise from my 17" rims/tires. it's sort of like a loud humming noise or something, it's pretty annoying but i like to drown it out with the stereo.

No, factory rims with factory spec tires. One of the rims is pretty banged up, but that wheel is on the opposite side of where the noise is coming from.

It is possible that one of the hangers for the exauhst system is bent up, and now the exhaust itself is rubbing your undercarriage. This happened once on my '92. It was more like a rattling sound that a 'gurgle' though.
