1995 Chevy S10 4.3L V6 Vortec
I bought this truck when it had 78k miles and have done very little maintenance to it. It now has 120k Miles and is idling and running a little rough. I decided it was time for a tune-up. I have changed spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor button, Coil, oil filter(Will when I find it lol), Fuel filter, pcv valve and air filter. I'm also running some fuel system cleaner through it. Should I be changing anything else at this stage?
TIA
On another note, I have a annoying problem. Air will not blow through my dash vents. It blows fine through the defrost, and floor vent. Doesn't matter if I have it on the heat or air. Any suggestions?
Also, I have some squeeking noises coming from the back of the truck underneath the bed on acceleration, started about a week ago. Once I get up to 15+ mph I do not hear it anymore. I also notice it when making left and right hand turns. Any suggestions?
Everything just kinda seem to happen at once lol. Im not complaining its been a GREAT truck

42,000 miles or more on the oil without a change, your lucky that it's running.
Clean the EGR valve.
You probably have a vaccum leak going to the heater, which is probably why it's both ideling poorly and the heater controls are acting up,
And the last problem could be a wheel bearing or a u-joint.
Grease the front end, and check the brakes.

LOL no i do oil changes regularly 3-4k, 5w30 ac delco filter. I just grouped that in with the tune-up I did on it today. I took it out after the tune-up today and it purred like a kitten. Power seems to be restored too. The idling problem has been improved but its still a little rough. I'll try the EGR valve.
A little more info on the chirping. It seems to be louder at lower speeds yet I can still hear it at higher speeds with everything turned off and the windows up. Sounds like a bird chirping over and over very quickly. Only happens upon acceleration too. Let off the gas it stops, push on the gas it starts. Also, at the high end of third gear the rear end almost feels likes its dragging/bouncing. Pretty good vibration. I don't think I mentioned that its a manual tranny.

Try plugging the vaccum hose going into the heater at the firewall.
It might smooth the motor right out.

for the squeek, check your lug nuts, and if they are all tight, pick the back end up with a jack at the pig, (if your certin its the ass end) and give the tires a side to side and top and bottum shaking, listen for anything and feel for any play, and finally spin the tires *Neutral is an obveous must* and listen to see if its break drag

ps, our rear ends are natorious for going bad, so just for good measure you might want to do a gear lube change at 120k, did mine at 100 and fixed a sticking problem i had

The squeeking noise sounds like the brakes. Do you have 4WD? The S-10s with 4WD have a problem with tranny fluid sucking up into the vacuum system and causing the heating vent problem. Read this thread.

could be the vacuum ball too. look for a ball under the hood i think its on the driver side. its about the size of a grapefruit and its black plastic. make sure there is vacuum to it and that it holds vacuum. it controls the vacuum for your vents and whatnot. if there isnt a check engine light for the egr valve dont worry about it, it doesnt do anything that helps the engine run better. the only reason its there is for NOx emissions.

Ok the rear end issue has been resolved. U-joint needed to be replaced, I noticed the break shoes needed replacing. The chirping is gone, not sure if it was the brakes or the u-joint chirping. Great job guys on the tips on what it could be!
Now, the vent issue. On my drivers side i noticed a vacuum tube that not going to anything. Almost looks like something was torn or rotted off the end of it. First thought it might be part of the washer fluid system but it seems to be all intact. I have looked all over in the general vicinity and cannot find anything this would hook to. Is it possible something fell/tore/rotted off? Would this hook to the ball you were talking about Rahx?
Had a mechanic mention to me they thought my idler arm needed replaced. He had my truckon a lift checking my grease's and oil etc. Is this something that normally needs replacing at 120k miles or so. I don't hear any knocking up front. I do have some vibration in the steering wheel but not much. I attributed that to a rotor or wheel balance issue, and how could he tell just by looking?
TIA ,

well your going in the right direction.
What I'm going to sugest with that hose is trace it to the end, and if possible take some pictures of where it goes (paint it red or a visable color if possible) then post the pictures.
Then someone can trace where it goes to and let you know.
The suspensions on these trucks have to be kept well greased or they wear out fast.
He's probably right about that idler arm, although he sounds a little unsure about himself.
Try squirting some grease in there and get him to look again. He sounds pretty honest, or several other parts would have beeen added on.

for some reason GM idler arms go out quite often. after 120k and no replacement (im assuming) its probably floppin like a fish. my truck (02 2.2 5sp) has 66k on it and its been loose for about the last 10k. easiest way to tell is get underneath and its on the passenger side bolted to the frame. grab the steering arm its connected to and push it up/down. if its tight there should be no updown movement. and yes it sounds like it shoudl go to the vacuum ball but a picture would be nice.
