on the way back from crusing i saw this guy with a brandspankin new lotus elise. that bitch was bad and i told my friend to ask him if he wanted to run the guy said yes. so we went on ih-10 and started from 45 second gear pull. 3 honks and wear off slam 3rd gear pulling him and then slam 4th but i messed it and went down to second. i put it in forth and keep going for a lil bit when i'm about to pull him he let's off. oh well maybe next time i would of had him if i didn't miss that gear.

Lotus is British genius!

Nice run bro, I love the elise. It might not be a straight line runner but that car pulls hard on the twisties.

They make the best cars in the world man. Austin Martin, Lotus, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Noble, Catherham, Masserati, Pagani, Porche, the list goes on.
the British auto market is so much ahead of us that the only american car sold there is the Ford Focus. Every other car we produce year after year simply does not meet thier level of performance. the Ford is just dirt cheapa and sold with a 1.5 liter engine. Even the STI, EVO and GT-R which are Japan's most sought after cars fall short in comparrison to the common weekend-worrior car in Europe.
and by the way Lambo is now owned by VW so its no longer Itallian, its a German car now.
Whats the best sports car available in the U.S.? a Viper? no a Ford GT40.
whats the best Japan has to offer? a GT-R ?
Both those cars would get killed by a Maserati MC12, Ferrari F60 Enzo, Ariel Atom, Porsche Carerra GT, Ascari KZ1, Mercedes McLaren SLR, and on and on.
I understand if you dont like em cause I personally hate Ferrari and I think the Enzo is fugly but hey, I'm a car guy and I cant deny its eats everything out there.

the only american car sold there is the Ford Focus.

And you, sir, are incorrect.

Top 10 Cars Sold in Europe
1. Ford Focus
2. Vauxhall Astra
3. Ford Fiesta
4. Peugeot 206
5. Vauxhall Corsa
6. Ford Mondeo
7. Renault Clio
8. Renault Megane
9. Volkswagen Golf
10. Citroen Xsara

And that is just the top 10.

Other american cars currently sold in europe include, but are not limited to, the ford ka, streetka, fusion, galaxy, and ranger, the chevy matiz, kalos, lacetti, tacuma, and corvette, the chrysler crossfire, PT cruiser, voyager, grand voyager, and 300C, the dodge ram and viper (known there simply as the SRT10), the jeep wrangler, cherokee, and grand cherokee, and many others.

well yes in Europe but i was reffering to England in particular. I was under the impression that only the Focus got imported for England.
I'm not sure though if its still true cause I heard that over a year ago.

The Ford Fiesta and Mondeo are not american cars though. they may be american companies but its not built in the U.S. therefore they are not imported. Just like the mitsubishi Eclipse is not a Japanese car, its 100% built in the U.S. therefore its a domestic but from a foreign company.

thanks for the heads up though mate

nice run on the lotus, I've been trying to run one for forever.
And anyone who thinks europeans can't build cars is just ignorant...i'm sorry, but really...

lambo's used to be owned by chrysler believe it or not, but they sold the company in the late 90s I believe...

as for those cars, yea performance wise they're freaking awesome, but I must say that reliability wise I'm not so sure... I was researching into an 87' porsche 944 turbo b/c I loved the way they looked, they got decent gas mileage, handled extremely well, and were cheap to own... oh and did I mention good power??? ...
well long story short, the timing belt and various other things needed to be changed at 45K miles, not 60K but 45K, and if it wasn't changed, the car'll run into an ass load of problems...

than again that could just be one bad apple, but either way I say that european cars perform really well.

Morphius289
11-20-2005, 06:37 PM
My guess is that they don't really have to be that reliable because they aren't driven as much as the american cars. But they still go fast and hold a ton of records. Just something to think about.

no one said american cars weren't fast or n.e. thing... I never said that I thought euro cars were better than American cars either, I just said that Euros are very well performing cars, and I think that's what everyone's saying as well...

crazy torino
11-20-2005, 11:09 PM
i'm not sayin that are not fast i'm syin that as far as what they are worth, how they last, and their history. for instance lambo was created for the shear fact that mr. lambo said that the Ferrari he bought was a pice of trash. and shit breaks on those cars every day man you people don't know the kinda people i do. one of my buddies works in greensburo nc and his job exzotic sports car meachanic. all the rich bastards from southern pines send their austin vanquish and such cars of that breed up there to have somthin fixed every other damn day. yeah great performance until the same thing breaks over and over agin, just like j-ports.
what i'm stating is oh screw it never mind

Well i think we can all agree every region has sought after cars that are good/exceptional.

USA:
06 Z06 *only topped at the ring by Porcshe CGT
Vipers-No replacment for displacment for dodge
GT40-what else does a ailing compnay do but revive some live into a american dream
Saleen S7-The only real American Exotic

Japan
the new GTR and the old GTRs R32,R33,R34- What a legacy this car has if you shift past all the JDM yo hype crap.
EVO's- 1 of Rally finest
STI's- the same as above
our own beloved 3000kgt VR4-do i need to say nething
Nissian Z series- with cars as the 240/260/280z/300z/and the new 350z what more can u ask from nissian in a rwd car?
RX7/RX8-Mazada and the rotary *still think every mazada shoudl be one but thats me*

Euro
BMW-Power,Handling,and creater comfronts all in one
Porsche-The most dominate body in all sports car racing PERIOD.
Jaguar-Although the company has fallen along way this company was once Britians flagship
Aston Marting-Good to see old friends back and doing good
Lotus-with the Elise/Exige its a alittle car with alot of grip
Probably more but i'm not that Euro savy

Itaily
Ferrari-Next to Porsche probably one of the finiest racing legacy ever. **Formula 1 fans we have to admit Schumaker didn't do it all by him onesy did he?**
Lambo-i know they are owned by audio who is owend by VW but they still roll out of italy and have the italan legacy. ** who else names a car after satan himself?**
Maserati-How much crap can a company go through?? Look at maseratis long list of owners success and failures and you will see. Although i love the fact the brief period ferrari owned them they helped the make the MC12.

I know i have missed alot but this was like a 2 second thing just to get the point across that every country has there namesake cars.

yeah just like the S7 breaking down on its first trip in the movie mischief V

i've heard bently breaks down all the time. so we have also heard ford does the same thing. or ist it how well its takin care off? pushing your car to its top speed every day could possibly be a reason for what your exotic techs are seeing.
your defintetly not the only one who knows people who work on exotic cars. i've talked to a few guys at the same place that paul allen buys his exotics from, and if your taking care of the car, lots of bmw's and merc's and especially lotus, if takin care off will last you a long time.
i also know w guy sho worked at jag, very well built engines as far as he speaks.

a car will only last as long as you take care off it man, me and you dont know what the owner did to there cars.

now i didnt build any of these engines so i'm not gonna say your dead out wrong, but just think outside of your world for a sec, and know that there are others who will completly disagree with you and show you real proof

Musashi3000GT
11-21-2005, 06:04 PM
most of the time Exotics break down its cause of the drivers though. Just like Young said, It lasts as long as you take care of it. I had a professor in college who bought a Ferrari Testarossa, the guy took it to the shop three times in two months for the same problem, bad fuel injectors. wanna know what the problem was? he was putting regular octane in the tank! :banghead:

Anyway I really dont think supercars are meant to last more then a few years cause if you have the lifestyle to afford a supercar then chances are you can afford the next one and the one after that.

as far as the Saleen S7, its a nice looking car but it cant hold a lap in any track against the top 10 euro supercars. Sorry but the Ford GT is actually a better supecar. Even Steve Saleen said it himself in, he was trying to re-create the McLaren F1.

I'd rather have a dodge viper though... maybe it's just the mopar guy in me, but we've been a mopar family for some 50+ odd years (I'm talking back to my dad's time) and he's abused so many of their cars, and they've always treated him good... plus they're easy as hell to work on, heck I think my next car's gonna' be a turbo minivan

what I'm sayin' is that well I really don't know, I'm pretty much just rambling on an on, but out of all the american cars, I say I like the viper the best.

dont suppose anyone's ever heard of the Wiegert Vector W8?

anyways...yea nice run bro. I would be interested to see what the power/weight ratio on the elise vs the vr4 is. elise only runs like 190hp right?

Im not a fan of euro cars either. Theres no denying that there are some high-end performers, but without spending over 100k, your hard pressed to get anything noteworthy. Here you can get a 500hp viper for 80k or a 350hp hemi for less than 30k. Power is more expensive in europe. To get something thats going to keep up with the ford GT you probably going to spend twice as much.

I give the euro cars their props, but as a car guy with a modest budget, i wont be buying one anytime soon.

btw i think jags are PILES (from experience)

Dreamspawn
11-24-2005, 10:46 AM
Vector W8 you mean the ones that ran off a hyped up Olds V8 and used a 3 speed auto. Had what look like a fighter piliot cockpit. Only around 5-7 produced dont remeber the # straight off my head. Yup the Vector M12 also a very badddd car but i was noting the ones still in prodcuction. As far as Euro cars under a 100k Porsche 911 i think maybe even a turbo, bmw m3 all i think of off the top of my head. But the point remains in euro cars they wouldn't settle for interior creature comfronts we do.
