I found this site and I started reading it, and I was horrified....

I just bought a 2003 Eclipse GTS (yea, i'm the same guy from the other thread) and I have the sunroof shuddering problem when it opens, and it sounds like my TOB is fucked, and I floored the car in a straight line drive and barely before I hit the redline, the car started making a really loud rattle and it sounded like the engine over-rev'ed but the car did not respond to it. I was hoping someone could give me a breath of fresh air and tell me that these cars are not as bad as that site makes them seem and that someone here has had one for a while and not had problems?

I'm hoping the dealer replaces the clutch for me, if not, i'm returning it Monday.

my eclipse just suffered a really bad alternator failure. i think this may be the last straw.

The sunroof shudder and the TOB is to be expected. Maybe even the alternator. How many miles is on that car????

Well, that loud noise when you were flooring it may have been wheel hop. What gear were you in and were th roads dry. In first or seccond gear it could have been wheel hop, even just a little close to red line. It would be really loud, and make a lot of fuss and bother. Clutches are a relitively cheap fix, and even cheaper if you can do it yourself, or have a friend do it for you. So your TOB is not a big problem. However, if you think you need a new clutch at 60K, you need to have someone show you how to drive a stick. These cars are not bad. Like everything in the world, some suck, some are great, and most are good. If someone has it out for the car they will say whatever they want to make it look bad...dont believe everything the internet tells you. Your problems are not that bad; motor mounts, new suspension, new clutch...problem solved. OR, you can do nothing and drive a little slower, not get on the clutch so hard, and dont red line, and you wont even notice it.

these cars are not as bad as the site makes them out to be and theses are actually some of the best eclipses made

if you have a warped flywheel, it'll vibrate really bad, its not fun believe me and taht would need to be replaced, you haven't just straight dropped the clutch have you?

if there are serious things wrong w/ the car, it was prolly driven hard and a lot considering i have less than 20k on my car so 60k is incredible to me and if it was driven hard, then you've got problems and prolly should take it back for a different eclipse.

this shouldn't turn you off of eclipses al-together, but the well-maintained ones can last over 170k miles on stock engine and trans, its happened before and tahts w/ questionable maintenance

have the clutch replaced and the sunroof rails replaced, (and alternator if applicable) if they won't do that, don't put up w/ it and take your business somewhere else

just to give you a background on that site. the post who post there are people who beat on their eclipse, race it up and down the street, over-rev the engine, and then when the car breaks, they blame it on the manufacturer. they are just a bunch of pansy asses who don't know how to take care of a car.

so thats my little spill on that site.

I also noticed how every complaint on that site said "took it to dealer...." obviously those people never take care of their cars.

As far as 60,000 miles on the car and the alternator going bad that would be something I would place under wear and tear. Hell on my grand am I had to replace the alternator at 42,000 miles, and right now I am at 40,000 on my eclipse and due to my system I am looking at probably having to have that replaced within the next 6 months at the most

haha. sorry. I'm not that sort of person, but it's like 2 am and that sorta pissed me off that someone would correct someone else's english with MORE bad english. =\

While you're up, where is all the stuff for the 4g eclipses? I'm looking to buy one and have a few questions here and there. Particularly about the ralliart and this new SE thing they have. (I'm guessing SE is just the GT w/ trimmings, yes?)

Anyway, terribly sorry about the post. Looking back, it was a bad call.

A 4G forum will probably start as soon as more is known about the car. Right now its pretty new, and I dont think people have really started doing anything with them, nor do I think there is really any aftermarke items for it. If a MOD looks at this, keep us posted.

Yeah, so far only Razzi body kit, K&N air filter, and Apexi springs made specially for this eclipse. I saw someone speculating on eventually having parts to tune the GT to 500hp

Give me a break I'm from Virginia. LOL. No hard feelings.

I have heard that hanscraft is making and turbo kit for the 4g eclipses. Also I saw on car domain that had a twin turbo kit. I posted about it in this link

Virginia has... nice weather =[)

Any turbo would be a good turbo! I can't wait to see what people do with that V6. I saw that car a while ago! I meant parts for those of us without 100 sponsors ;]

Oh well, the stock 4g GT can apparently 0-60 in less than 6 and top out at 160+. Is this true, because I've seen conflicting stories.

Yeah, my sunroof sticks on my 2000 GT. I have to push it up to "pop" it open, but after that it goes back fine. It doesnt really bother me because it doesnt leak, and it still works. I think that what happens is that the person who owned before me opened it up over 70mph. My buddy's SRT4 manual says not to open the sunroof over 70 otherwise it could damage the opening device. Im sure getting it fixed costs more than it is worth.

the sunroof was replaced under my warranty, i had the same problem, it shuddered and didn't want to open right, most of all for me though it was embarrassing having a brand new car w/ a sunroof that didn't work right

the dealership has a different set of rails that doesn't warp which is why it shuddered, becuase the rails weren't 100% straight, if you take it to a dealership, they can fix it, if you don't have a warranty, you can deal w/ it or fix it

I must agree with DeadEclipse.com when they say that mitsubishi dealerships suck. When my brother bought his eclipse, he didn't take me. Bad mistake. When he brought it home and I test-drove it, I did notice that the brakes where not in good condition, the rear hatch had some problems, and the interior squeeked, just like deadeclipse.com said. Now, I know that the person that drove this car didn't take good care of it, but the dealership could at least handle the rear hatch and the brakes. I had to do that. Right now I'm trying to figure out the rattling in the interior. It rattles at any speed exept when it's not moving. It's coming between the speedometer and the door.***ANYWAYZ*** the guy from deadeclips.com kept on mentioning that he went to the dealer, what a puss! LOL.

So where is that any different from any other dealership though. When I bought my Eclipse the oil pan was dented, the gas lid on the car was literally peeling off, the rear tires where damn near bald, the sunroof shuddered when opening and the dealership did not fix any of these, and it was a Ford dealership that I bought the car from. Rule of thumb if a dealership and that is any dealership can get away with not fixing something on a used car they will leave it for a customer to deal with.

we are really talking about the bashing that the eclipse gets from that site. yes, most dealerships do suck. most of us know this. my dealership is pretty good and doesn't charge out the ass for work that gets done. but ive heard of plenty of horror stories from other dealerships.
