my transmission has been acting funny for the last couple of days, it will not shift gears, which in turn makes the car run at a high rpm at low speed, eg. 60kph = 3000rpms

your car is in "limp mode" meaning that it's stuck in 2nd gear and reverse. You'll need to go to a shop that has access to the computer systems and see what exactly is wrong. It could be a bad solenoid pack, TCM, or even something as simple as the type of fluid you are using; All Chrysler vehicles are to use Mopar ATF+4, anything else will cause problems.
