WOuld appreciate any advice regarding diagnosis and repair of appearant fuel guage problem. Fuel gauge registered 1/2 full tank when leaving house. Observed gauge indicator fall to empty within 20 miles driving distance. Fuel is NOT leaking from vehicle. Suspect the sending unit in tank is bad. Has anyone had simular problem? What is the fix? Thanks in advance for your replys.. RetiredGuy

I had a similar problem with my '99 LS. But it was the opposite. When it got below 1/8th tank the level indication would shoot up to the 1/2 mark. I pulled the fuel pump assembly and replaced the fuel level sending unit. It fixed the problem.

 Thanks soooo much for your input! I was able to fix the problem today.. purchased a new sending unit from the dealer for $170.. Was able to lay the rear seat back down to gain access to the access cover in the trunk..Was a bit of a "jig saw puzzle" extracting the assembly from the tank but it did come out! Thanks again for your input..

Not a problem and you are welcome. I'm glad you got it fixed. Nothing like DIY to save money. :bigthumb:
