1996 Jeep GC -- keyless entry receiver fix??

I've got a keyless entry system that, due to the vehicle being in an accident, no longer works. This is a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I can't get an estimate below $150 and I'm hoping for something cheaper. I have some experience working on cars and electronics, so I was hoping I could figure it out, but resources on the web are scarce. Any suggestions?
