91 Town Car Heater/AC Blower problem

I'm having a problem with my heater/AC. Whether I use the AC or heater, the fan only kicks in when the fan speed control is set to 'high' or 'auto'. If I set it anywhere in between, the blower just stops. When I am using the heater, not only do I have the blower speed issues; but, I can only get the heater to work on the 'defrost' or 'defrost/floor' setting. So, the only time I get anything blowing out the air ducts is when I am utilizing the compressor and the setting is on high or auto. But, the temperature control is working. And, I do get hot or cold air. I'm at a loss here. I dont know if I have one big issue, or if there is a few issues here. I would appreciate any help with this one.....Thanks

i had the same problem with my 95 town car. the control unit inside the car that controls the entire climate control (where you set the temperatuer and all that) was bad. Usually what happens is one of the sodder joints eventually breaks and sets itself on one of the chips inside. you will need a whole new unit. but before you go to that extreme, make sure you check the fuses and all that and make sure nothing is loose. also, the reason why your defrost and floor vents are only working is because the control head is bad, but make sure none of the air lines on the blower is disconnected. that wouldnt fix your problem with only getting it to work on "high" or "auto" however.

a buddy of mine also had the same thing happen to his '00 town car and it was the same thing - the control unit head in the car went bad.

Thanks for the help. I'll check that out. Also, is there a way to check the control head to see if it is faulty?

you would have to remove it from the dash and open it up. look for broke sodder joints, burn marks, stuff like that. usually it is a broken sodder joint. definitly check it out before you replace it because that are quite expensive.
