Time to Dump the '94 Taurus?

Well, it looks like my '94 Ford Taurus is about to cost me more in repair bills than it is worth. Presently, the car has 116,800 miles on it. Original tranny if you can believe it.

Computer failed at 51K... replaced it. At 75K radiator went. At 82K oil pan went... okay, I did run over something hard and metallic on the George Washington Bridge that sheared off one of the bolts!

In its current condition, the rear struts need to be replaced [yes, I love bouncing up and down the highway], the front tires have little life left in them and, the big one, the tranny is acting up: on occasion when I come to a stop at traffic light or intersection, the car fails to move forward when in drive. I can get it to go when I shift into reverse or neutral and then back into drive. The shifting between gears is very rough as well.

Talked to my mechanic last week before the current tranny problems. Told him that I wanted him to change the tranny fluid. He said, no. Apparently, he doesn't want the responsibility of opening the tranny up [removing fluid, changing filter]. I thought about taking it to Ford, but know they'll charge major $$$ for the work.

Okay, now for the question -- should I cut my losses and get rid of the Taurus?

Thanks,

Matt

If you have any sense left in you man, dump the monster!! Tis the remorseless wallet breakin' machine!! The replacement parts supplied by Ford actually last less than the oem.

Sounds like a beater thats for sure. I would drive that thing hard for the next week and unload it. Maybe you can get $500 out of it. Don't waist you money on that damn piece of shit ford...oooops. Better off getting other than ford i'll tell you that. Your right, replacing that trany will cost gads of money. From what you have stated in your post...its not worth it.
