Cold air conversion...

I just bought a filter, and im going to make my own cold air intake. I have an 89 2.3 mustang and i was just wondering... There are two little wires coming from the stock air filter box, im assuming that these are airflow sensors. My question is what do i do with these? Do i attach them out of the way and forget about them or should i attach them to the tube that im using to connect the filter?

I just went out to play around with it a lil more and found another question.... What should i do about the tube coming off of the exhaust manifold? I believe its the exhaust gas recirculation tube. Any help woudl be appreciated..

Okay, first off, computer controlled vehicles require those little wires in the air intake box. This tells the computer the correct air/fuel mixture to distribute to the engine. I know someone who just put them in backwards and the car ran like crap. Make sure you integrate them into your new design. The tube coming off the exhaust manifold is called an EGR Valve Passage Tube. I would save and reuse this. It should be connecting into your EGR Vavle and creating a cold air kit shouldn't bring you in contact with it. If you decide to get rid of it you will start throwing codes on your computer. The passage actually moniters your carbons and the tube will allow you to reburn your unused carbons on the next combustion stroke. Hope this helps.

I talked to a guyy in my class about it too.. Hes into the import tuning etc... and he told me if it runs fine without the egr tube or the sensors that it would be ok. So we disconnected them and ran it without them and it seemed to run just fine... Would it eventually fuck up? Im having a hard time finding a tube for this bloody thing... Nobody likes 2.3 L. So i think im going ot get one bent at a muffler shop, hopefully i can integrate the needed peices into there.

Good luck with that...I would just as well leave my stuff as stock as possible. I think you may run into some unwanted problems down the road. How do you know if you lost 5 HP by taking it out? You really don't. How do you know if you gained 5 HP? Same situation. Unless you have a dyno in house, you will never know. I tried to get a muffler shop to make a tube for me once and they wouldn't do it! Don't know why, but maybe you'll be able to mock it up and they will. Good luck!

Oh! By the way...you can use green catyllitic converter hose to replace that tube!
