Well Ive got a friend whos got a D16Z6 and his VTEC doesnt kick in. The ECU isnt reporting any error- could it be some kind of temp sensor which checks the engine temp. If yes where is it located?!

how do you know its not coming on ? Vtec on the zc single cam motors is not something that is neccesarily noticeable, if you listen real hard after 5k rpm you will a high pitched whine,. Nothing that knocks you back in your seat though.
He may want to install a vtec light, its real easy. If the vtec is truely not engaging it could be a multitude of things but you should buy a helms manual and start from there.

the loss of VTEC happens while the engine is still warming up, there is low oil pressure, or the vtec solenoid has gone bad. If VTEC doesn't engage after the engine is warm, check the oil level to make sure it is correct. If it is, I'd suggest a run to the dealer to have them check the solenoid and sensors associated with it.

Also remember that the car has to be traveling at 15mph or more for the VTEC to kick in. good luck stefan525
