Hey hopefully everyone can help me out here. This is reguarding my fathers 87 G/A with the 3.0 V6. I was informed by him yesterday that his trans went on his car or so he thought. I went and checked on the car after he xpalined what happened to see the entire driverside wheel well covered in trans fluid. I checked the transmission, and no fluid what so ever inside, but heres the wierd part the outercasing of the transmission and seal is all dry. the one corner has some obvious spray from the wheel. Is there any lines or other seals that could cause this? The fluid coolant lines looked fine, but the axle, the boots and everything on the other side of the wheel well shroud cover is covered? Any thoughts or ideas greatly appreicated.

Sounds like the axle shaft seal went bad. If the coolant lines are good and unless the case split that is really the only other thing that would allow that much fluid to come out of a transmission.

ya grfnkl , there are seals on both axles that can blow fluid every where. My 99' actually done this, this past spring. I didnt loose all my fluid but damn near. Maybe he got lucky and its just the seal and not toast . you may not be able to tell if the seals the culprit, but if you put in some fluid, hav some one start it up and run threw the gears(not moving mind you) and look under to see if its squirting from the seal, or maybe anyother spots.
Let me/us know if this isnt the case grfnkl, i wish u luck.

Well found out it was only the tranny fluid coolant lines that had a bunch of holes in them which caused all the fluid to leak out. NOW hopefully this did not mess up the trans, since my father drove 25 miles home on it this way yesterday. :disappoin
The TCC was locking up on me as well this morning, hopefully that doesn't start acting up as well.

When you refill it after you fix it add a can of sea foam additive. It will clear out any gunk that may have been deposited in it if it did overheat slightly. One thing if he drove it all the way home then he didn't lose all the fluid otherwise it would have slipped too bad for it to move.
