There is rust all over the engine, and the EGR valve rusted so bad it needs replaced. However, the bolts are so rusty, mechanic says I need a new intake manifold. The body is fine, no rust, just in the engine compartment. Anyone else have this problem? Any idea why?

Well the truck is from Minnesota, I just got it. Salt can effect the engine and not the body? The truck is in perfect condiotion body wise.

i suspect the engine was pressure washed more than a few times. ive seen that happen here in cali , up to the point where all the bolts on the engine were severely rusted.

Mines the same way, so bad I had to install a new valve cover because the flange rusted off of it. As far as the EGR, you need a new mechanic. The EGR doesn't mount to the intake. It does mount to either the block or exhaust manifold along with the oil dipstick. While rusted, it came off easily with the correct socket. The tube on one side is attached to the back of the driver's side exhaust manifold and can be easily reached with a 1&1/16" (i think) wrench through the wheel well. The other end of the set up slips into the upper intake and should easily slide out if the rest is removed.
