tailgate panel on an Isuzu Rodeo 2000

is there an easy way of taking the tailgate panel off of an Isuzu Rodeo 2000 with the tailgate closed? the tailgate does not open and i believe that the linkage mechanism may be loose of damaged.

I think 2eyefishclaw described it awhile back.. IIRC- The netted storage pouch assembly pulls off exposing some panel mounting screws, remove those screws and the panel pops off so you can get at inside of the tailgate door.
