well my heater core is leaking like a sive. has anyone done thiis before. I am wondering how difficult it would be to change. Does the dash need to come out? On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate it? thanks for any info!

I wouldn't call it a fun job. The plastic panels below the steering column, in the lower center of dash and whole panel including the glove box have to come off. Then unbolt metal frame that is in front of heater/ac & fan box (not top part that holds dash). Remove heater control by reoving two philips screws and unplugging electrical and vacuum plugs. Remove two vacuum lines that feed through the firewall by the AC block (remove from engine side). Under hood on firewall: after discharging AC, disconnect AC block by removing center bolt and then two star bolts , disconnect two heater hoses that feed heater core, then remove five nuts from screws that stick out about 1 inch through firewall and that hold heater/AC /fan box to firewall. Go back under dash and pull heater/AC/fan box out and to the drivers side after disconnecting fan power plug (on passenger side). pull and pull and yank and curse and yank and curse some more. After pulling heater box out under steering column, remove it by taking it out the passenger side. Take heater box inside and take screws out of top , lift off top and replace heater core and AC core while you are at it because they both go bad and it is difficult to remove the box more than once. Remove, clean, and grease air flapper control rods, especially the bottms because the leaky core has rusted them and they are stiff and don't work well.
Install by cursing a lot and pushing and shoving box back in while having someone help you line up bolts through firewall. Make sure metal gaskets are still in AC block when reinstalling.
good luck.

u dont have to do all that.found out the hard way doing one at work.just behind the gas pedal is a little cover u remove to get to it.just disconnect the hoses under the hood and it will slide right on out of the box.it may look like the dash has to come out but they made it easy to do without doing all that.let me know how it goes.

I wish I had know this, although my caravan is a 93. I went out and looked and I can't find the cover. Did they start this after 93?
