97 Galant Transmission Problem???

I brought this car in 2003 under $3000.00 for under 100,000 miles.
During the summer of 2005, I was driving home, when I got off the exit ramp to get on the highway doing 45-55 (don't remember). Out of no were the car didn't want to go foward, the RPM's were runnning but the car didn't want to go foward?!....I got the car fixed after that. All was good intil one day I put it in reverse. All of a sudden, it doesnt go reverse. It goes foward, but not reverse??? RPMS RUN! BUT NO reverse??? i really dont under stand what the heck is wrong with the car?? Do I need a new transmission??? or something else?? I need some one with experience to tell me what the problem is? Or what i can do about it?
