HVAC blower motor fuse keeps blowing

The HVAC blower motor fuse blows every time I put a new one in and turn on the blower. Of course, this had to happen on the first below freezing day of the season. Anyway, can anyone tell me what the cause may be and what the cost of the repairs should be in south central Michigan?

Either a blower motor or blower motor resistor. Does it still blow the fuse on the highest fan setting?

The blower motor never comes on, so I'm assuming the high setting would make no difference. The fuse blows immediately.

I'd say go for the blower motor assembly located under the passenger side of the dashboard. If it worked in high the blower would be OK and the blower motor resistor would be the cause. In high speed a blower motor relay controls the blower motor and bypasses the resistor. Good luck!

I had a similar problem with a radiator fan motor. When I started the car it would just blow fuses. Determined it was actually the fan motor by simply disconnecting the electrical plug and then turning it on with a new fuse installed. When disconnected, the fuse did not blow thus confirming that it was actually the fan motor. Bought a used fan motor off ebay for $15 and problem solved. You might want to try the same thing with the HVAC blower motor.
