i got another sentra. it's 2000 gxe 5speed. i was hoping on a SE but i got a really good deal on this one. so far i have the hotshot cai, and i put a new muffler on just for a little appearance improvement, ha. my friend suggested straight piping it from the cat. he said go with 2.5 inch all the way back. i'm wondering if this will make it too loud so that it's illegal... or should i just buy an aftermarket catback?

buy aftermarket cat-back. its really worth the money so you dont have to deal with the hassle of whether its legal, rusty, ect.
if you are worried alot about noise level, get one with a silencer, or get a quiet one, like the apex'i world sport.
my 1999 SE had straight 2.5 inch with a fart can on back and it was loud as hell and i got pulled over a couple times for it but i just bought a silencer, drilled a hole in the tip of the can and stuck it right in. lol it was a cheapass APC fart can and a tanabe silencer.
yeah and get the header first. once you get the exhaust, youll notice the power more.
