used car interior smell

I just purchased a 1999 chev. venture pvan fo 3,700. Now my wife complaines about the smell when she opens the door and it seems to stay around all the time. The window dosen't close all the way on drivers side and the car sat for two months before I bought. I'm wondering if this could be mold or something else and how can I get rid of it. I tried air freshners but no luck . Can someone give me some better way to correct this problem,short of buying a new car...
