Come to think of it, that's the car on the cover of Porsche Excellence Magazine. 520 Bhp TT Flat-6!!!! It's a sweet car for a cool $185,000.

i would assume they do it b/c they build a motor right the first time... instead of having to bulletproof the internals before you mod, they give that to you... so all ya gotta do is tweak away...
i love those cars.
those rims are the bomb diggaty
the only thing i dont like is the not so perfect fit of the front lip... it could be smoother, or just replace the whole thing like the yellow car w/ the tire track down the front...

To those who said that the Porsche 911 Ruf R Turbo cost 185,000 you are wrong it is 223,000. Also to whoever said the Ruf was 100,000 less than a Ferrari you are also wrong! Not to be a prick or anything but you guys need to learn more about cars before you start talking about them and acting like you know about them.

first they start with a 911 turbo which already has one of the highest per liter specific outputs of any car on the road,
then they send it to RUF's tuning facility where they work over the engine with such fun goodies as porting & polishing, bore & Stroke, utilizing ball bearing turbos, underdriving and just generally tuning to the maximum potential to make it up to RUF edition standards

in actuality there is hardly anything stock about these porsche's horizontally opposed six cylinder engines by the time this is done. Alois Ruf is to porsche as Steve Saleen is to ford mustangs, they are a german performance company that have made themselves THE name in tuning and racing porsches for 40 years so its not actually how porsche does it its how you make a porsche do it.

and i fully agree with you, it is a HELL of a lot of power given the porsches stock 3.2 liter displacement (stock, prior to the RUF treatment)

My neighbor drives a 2002 Porsche 996 twin turo with Gembella options and i love that car. Every now and then ill ride in it. Now factory specs are always BS and you all know it. Porsche claimed the 911 turbo to go 196 mph. at firstbut tests say it only goes 184 mph. so we'll assume that the ruf goes 202 mph. My neighbors 996 t.t. was clocked at 209 mph. In my personal oppinion i would take the Porsche over the Ruf because to a everyday on looker if you saw a car the looked like a porsche but was called a Ruf you would think it was a knokff. Eventhough we know its not we spend a unusuall amount of time looking at cars and typing in these forums. I'm sure alot of things i said might P.O. a number of people but oh we i dont give a shit.:flipa:

Porsche have nothing to do with RUF! though Ruf buy their stock parts from porsche thats all they have to do with them. Plus if Someone saw a porsche with a RUF badge and thought it was a 'knokff', once the owner slightly twitches his big toe i think they would have no trouble relising that it was a serious peice of kit. Plus depeding on the spec of the Turbo-R will determin how fast it goes. example, if u ask for a wide body kit (like turbo and GT2) it would create more drag than the normal body (GT3) so if ur Turbo-R has the 'thin' body on it it will go faster. also u can have different ratio gears on the transmission, making the top speed of the turbo-R nearer 212mph.

Independent road tests have seen the stock 996 Turbo clock just over 190mph, so i dont know where your 184 mph figure came from.

cheers

Firrst of all the ruf is called a Rufctr2 and it is made to be a knockoff... but they havent tested it for topspeed they only estimated on the mods and goinbby what tests have said for the porsche gt2.The car is a little more expensive but pulls about 25-30 miles faster than the 911gt2 :flipa:

Where do you people invent these numbers from????

First the idiot with the 196mph and 184mph numbers for the 996TT> Porsche claim 189mph, in tests it has achieved over 190. Thats you done.

As for the RUF, its achieved the 213mph in independent tests, what more do you want? No need to estimate anything. And its not called a CTR2, thats the 993. Its not even a Turbo R, its called a RUF R Turbo, which is a different car to the Turbo R. Get your facts straight, people. Even supercars.net got it wrong by calling it a Turbo R, which as i said is a different car.

All of the above except the last i can understand.

As for the last part. I posted this when the car was brand new by Ruf. This is what other magazines were calling it at the time. Go be pissed at them.

Try to be more original too....Captain Anal.Geez

There are two types of Ruf cars - Those that are built from the bare shell up (and stamped with Ruf serial numbers) and Porshes given the Ruf treatment. Ruf pretty much re-engineers most every component of the Stuttgart stormers and is actually an official automobile manufacturer. It's quite amazing when someone has their Porsche converted to Ruf specs because they will actually fly someone over to you to perform the conversion! Now THAT is customer service! If only Ruf were to Porsche as AMG is to Mercedes. Who knows what kind of monsters would come of such a partnership.

And word is Ruf is coming up with a successor to the 993 CTRs for their 40th? anniversary. I can't wait!

I´m sorry folks, but you are all wrong!
I´m from germany, so i know much more about that car... It is build in the algäu. The car drives 341km/h which was tested from a german magazine which is very informal (auto moter &sport)
i also drive sometimes which very expensive porsche and so on, and we can drive very fast here, because we had no limit on our highways! i think up to 160 km/h its very fast for you, but i fall into sleep under 200km/h !
it´s so cool to drive as fast as you can, and everyone on the street looks at you and there are not much accidents! i drove sometimes more than 300km/h what is very fast and i drive it at 5am on sunday ( there the transporters aren´t able to drive) ITS SO COOL AND ITS LEGAL!

so on, its now 1.06 am in germany, i go to bed, good night!

crayzayjay
06-03-2003, 05:07 AM
Zubi> whether or not you’re going fast depends on the circumstances you are in. 160km/h isn’t lightning pace on the autobahn, or on the motorway here in England (even though it’s still 50km/h above the limit), but it can certainly be fast if youre driving down a twisty B-road in the UK!

Anyhow, welcome to AF :)

but in fact, we drive legal 250 and higher, you loose your license if you do it:licker:

Most European tuners are expensive. There is rumor that German tuner 9FF is working on an exhuast system that is worth about 10K for the Carrera GT.

What 9ff needs to do is have someone work on their terrible website. Love what they do with the Turbo though.

For a car so extreme I don’t think that price is unwarranted. Besides, it’s going to have to be a pretty special piece of equipment to outdo the factory one. Anywhoo, whats 10k for someone who’s just bought a C GT? These guys want to make a profit too :D

It's actually been a goal of my brother and I for quite some time, and it will be quite some time before it materializes. Hopefully we don't turn out like a guy we know that worked his buttocks off for years running his own shop before losing it all and ending up working in the service department at a Porsche dealer.:frown: It happens I guess.

(Oh yeah and to keep this on topic) Has anyone seen Mischeif 3000 with the silver Ruf R Turbo??

Mischeif 3000 features the 2002 Gumball Rally from NYC to Hollywood. Great stuff if you don't have a problem with highway racing. Very very disturbing if you DO happen to have a problem with highway racing (If this is the case DON'T WATCH IT!!). The disclaimer states that they are "trained professionals," but they're just a big group of rich international high speed hooligans with wonderful automotive toys. There is an F50, numerous 360s and 996 Turbos (including a single Ruf), a 700 hp R33, a TVR which I like to call "the Swordfish car," and many others. You wouldn't belieive some of the tickets that they get. The driver of the F50 got the absolute worst ticket being clocked at 187 mph!!! Actually I think he got thrown in jail. There are in-car shots of the Ruf acheiving more than 200 mph (on the digital speedo anyway). At one point in the Rally the guys in the Ruf are giving rides to highway patrolmen!! :spit:
