The driver side door just doesnt shut. When i go to close the door, it just refuses to snap shut. The problem appears to be the area on the door which normally should form a C shape to latch onto a perpendicular 3 inch long cylinder connected to the car. This C shape is actually swiveled and looks more like a V shape so when the door goes to shut, the perpendicular cylinder just slams up against the V shape keeping the door open. I've tried using a screw driver to yank the aparatus around to a C shape but it seems stuck.
Looking at the door there appears to be 4 screws surrounding the apparatus in question. I'm wondering if i can just unscrew these to make it easier to swivel the apparatus around to the way it should be.
Any suggestions on how i can go about fixing my door so that it finally can shut properly?
Thanks. The vehicle is a GMC Safari XT. Dont know the year, possibly 1991.
