Well they say the McLaren F1 is quick and handles well....

Seriously, we need a price range.

how bout a price range..
And how do you define fast?
15 second 1/4 mile, 14 13 etc.

castillorio
11-16-2005, 12:21 AM

Well the 1/4th mile is the easiest way to define a cars straight line speed...
To give you an idea of how cars stack up...
http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html
It has 0-60 as well.

Why 0-60?
You like racing up to the speed limit  ?
0-60 can be hugely up to tires for your more torquey cars, or high strung cars (high revving).

castillorio
11-16-2005, 02:03 AM
speed limit? what that? lol well i like both. 0-60 around 7 sec. (thanks for the link helped out alot) i was thinking about a altima, integra,is 300,94 impala, prelude. if that helps

Altimas
11-16-2005, 12:03 PM
you said you liked 0-60.
Btw altimas, impalas, preludes and tegs are FWD...
altimas and tegs are in addition gutless, although vtec tegras and ludes are kinda quick, but gutless still (no torque).
You should look for V6 RWD cars imo, or turbo 4 bangers.
Turbo mr2s are pretty fast and handle extremely well since they have the engine in the correct place (mid engine).
FWD cars also don't handle well if you hate understeer.
They also have torque steer if they have any kinda of power (maxima++) and the designers were stupid enough to fit an open differential or unequal drive shafts.

SRT4 would be a good choice, a DSM, DOHC VTEC Honda's are good (i like mine), MR2, miata, etc....

It really depends on your preference, what you can afford, how much insurance is, and the car that's going to suit your needs (gas mileage and size)......those things all need to be considered.

he said rwd, but the cars he listed were all FF....if i was to get an RWD car, i would look at a 300ZX or a 3000gt (VR4 would be my choice).....Mazda Miata, S2000......

castillorio

For 15k you could get a fairly decent vr4. any of those TT's might be a little more maintenance than you're looking for, though. Most any sport compact from the 90's up will probly fit the bill for you. I've always thought eclipses - especially the mid 90's gsx spyders - are very good looking and fun cars. I bet you could find a gsx spyder for under 10grand in excellent condition with plenty of money left for mods, sound system or whatever else you wanted.

just make sure it's the AWD version.
Even then I don't think they're anywhere as fun as a classic RWD car because of the FWD based awd system.
...It's 100% fwd untill a front wheel slips and then it tranfers 50% to the rear.
So it's like a FWD car with more grip in effect.

He listed "94 Impala". That was a RWD car. The newer version switched to FWD. I just bought a '95 Buick Roadmaster with a 350 cu.in. LT1 engine, and 270 hp. These cars are similar to the Caprices and Impalas of the early to mid '90s as they share the same platform/ engines. From all the research I've done and reviews read, these cars with the LT1 engine are supposed to be real fast. ( I won't actually get to find out til spring as it is snowing here as I type this  but I can't wait to see.) The car is in great shape and was owned previously by 2 older gentlemen, so it was well taken care of. I bought the car for only $1500. (The guy was selling it because he'd hope to give it to his daughter to drive, but she's short and the car is too big for her.) The engine in this car is the same one used in the Corvette, so we're talking nice power here. Check out some police auctions for older police cars. They generally use RWD cars and can meet your need for speed. :evillol:

Doh... ya got me :icon16:
A roadmaster appears to run a 15 flat 1.4 mile.
http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html
Not holy shit fast but pretty quick.
A vtec prelude runs the same, as well as a integra type r, or the new rsx type s.
So if you see a integra that says type r or a vtec prelude, or a type s rsx, dont race em.
Just do a big power slide in a corner :evillol:
Remember they weigh 2 tons :p

That LT1 in those cars would be a great candidate for a swap into a 3rd gen. Camaro :evillol:

98-02 Camaro. A V-6 would be fast enough to compete with the cars you listed but an LS1 powered one is in another league.

thank you all for all the help, im thinking to go with a hyundai tiburon v6, its not the greatest v6 but hey that what i love about cars, to make them faster

castillorio
11-25-2005, 01:35 PM
yeah i know, thats what i kinda hate about new car allot are being turn to fwd, not alot but why cant it be like old times rwd, but oh well,

Altimas
11-25-2005, 03:15 PM
there are RWD cars but they're either luxury performance cars or cars that are made only for performance, not interior space or safety.
Maybe not the fastest cars (miata...) but they serve only one purpose.

If you're looking at a Tiburon why not take a look at the new Civic Si, it's got 197hp and I'm willing to bet it offers better performance than the Tiburon.

castillorio
11-25-2005, 09:45 PM
yeah it does but no torqe

drdisque
11-25-2005, 11:19 PM
you can also get used Tiburons, you can't get used new SI's

castillorio
11-26-2005, 09:51 PM
very true plus i dont rlly like that break in period, but when used u dont know how they treated it in the begining, but hey its cheaper, does anyone know the price range a tiburon should be years 03-05, i rlly dont, well i dont trust dealerships. thanks in advance

94 and up Nissan 240SX.
Comes with a 2.4L DOHC 4 cyl.
Turbo kits are readily availible. Aftermarket is huge. Relatively light, and easy to maintain. only drawback, is highprice (comes with high resale tho..) b/c of the Fast n the furious rage! (stupid movie).

if you want a fast 2 dr RWD car, take a look at the BMW Z series. more than 15 K though. If you want performanc you gotta pay for it. is the tiburon RWD?

No the Tiburon is not RWD.

Get something RWD, you will kick yourself for getting anything FWD if you want something fun to drive, aside from something like a mini cooper because those things handle like they are on RAILS! :iceslolan

Seriously though, find someone with an LS1 Camaro/Firebird Formula/Trans-Am and see if they will take you for a ride in it, those things are so fun to drive and cheap to modify it is nuts. Just headers/exhaust/air lid/maybe gears depending on what came stock and you are in the 12s(I think mid to low but don't quote me on that). Not to mention do just a cam swap and you have 400rwhp. I believe that's about 480 at the crank(where just about everyone else measures their power to seem faster). You can get 98s for about $10k-11k(at least where I live) so you'll save a bit of money and have a bitchin car. Not to mention they get insane gas mileage for a V8 as powerful as it is(19 city, 28 highway).

get a 04 pontiac gto. if you get it supercharged, that thing would seriously scare the hell out of you.

flatlander757
11-27-2005, 02:58 PM
It'll scare you wallet with a 15k budget too

But you can't deny those goats kick ass :iceslolan

they rlly get that gas milage? cuz my truck dont get that and its a 2.4 4 banger

castillorio
11-28-2005, 02:19 AM
my cuzin had a camero, it was crazy fast, ill admit that would be a great car to have, but isnt insurance high for those cars? and is it manual? because most v8 now are all automatic (wich rlly pisses me off cuz its a waste of power)

SuperHighOutput
11-28-2005, 10:57 AM
yeah it does but no torqe

If you want torque you should look into an LS1 F-body or a 99+ Mustang.

luvsvettes
11-28-2005, 10:57 AM
It sounds like what everyone is saying is, if you want to go fast, your probably gonna go over budget. 15 K will buy some decent base model cars, but a kick in the ass will be more. Make sure to find your priority, and get the car you will be most happy with.

yeah ur right luvsv but yeah i heard alot about that gm cars have alot of problems.

dont forget how much RWD sucks in the snow though. i think you might be kicking yourself for not buying FWD when your RWD spins out in the rain during cautious driving
