3rd Gen Z28 VS IrocZ

Okay so I have finally decided to sell my Camaro and to buy a V8 3rd gen. My ideal car is a 92 IROC, but I have a few general questions
1- HP ratings, and is it worth buying the IROC over the Z28?
1989- 5.0 TPI V8 215 bhp.
IROC: 5.7 TPI V8 240 bhp.
1990- 5.0 TPI V8 215 bhp.
IROC: 5.7 TPI V8 240 bhp.
1991- 5.0 TPI V8 215 bhp.
IROC: 5.7 TPI V8 245 bhp.
1992- 5.0 TPI V8 215 bhp.
IROC: 5.7 TPI V8 245 bhp.
2- What is quatermile times for these cars? Or how much quicker would the IROC be over the Z28?
3- INSURANCE- I haven't been able to find a place online that will give me a quote for an IROC, they just list the Z28's. So if you have a 3rd gen what are you payinf for insurance, and who is your carrier?
I am sure once I post this I will have more questions but for now thats it.

They write that the IROC was dropped but the motor specs still list it, so what motor was the 5.7 in?
Also RS isn't like 4th gens right, a RS can be either a V6 or V8?
So what are the main diffrences between the Iroc and the Z28's?

They are the same thing, except IROC was used in place of Z28 for a while. So your ideal car is then a 92 Z28 with the 5.7 TPI.

When they made the Z-28 & IROC's at the same time, the IROC had better suspension, the 245 50VR 16 tires (16" rims) and sat 1/2" lower than the Z-28. You could get the same engine & trans in either one.

If you get a 92 Z28 it would have to have a 5.7L engine because all 92 Z28's came with that engine.

I live in CA and I pay $125 a month for my IROC. Not too bad for full coverage.

i live just south of D.C. and with no collision or collateral coverage i pay about 120 a month.
as far as the power output of the cars, its pretty much the same for those years, the only differences were in the camshaft specs that i know of. unless you got the dual cat setup. Since most modifications include the heads, cam, and exhaust anyway, i would decide baised on the other aspects of the car, like its paint, interiror, suspension and stuff like that. seeing as the engines are very similar, and the most likley mods youll make are to those aspects of the car.

iroc-z has slightly different ground efx and is about 1/2 in lower than a Z. iroc has better suspension (shocks, bigger sway bars, front frame renforcement), and bigger wheels and tires.
85-87;
-iroc is an option package for the Z28 (my insurance had no idea that my 87 was an iroc because it is not a separate model);mutual benifit insurance
-85-86 Z28/iroc; highest engine is 305TPI were as 87 iroc can have 350TPI
-85 305TPI=highest hp 305tpi because of a better cam, 215hp
-B4Z is iroc RPO
-305 4bbl is base engine in Z28/iroc, 305+350 TPI optional
88-90;
-iroc is it's own model (no hiding the iroc option from insurance) although Z28 is the RPO used
-305TBI is base engine in iroc, optional in base coupe, 305+350 TPI optional
there was no 92 iroc. 91-92 Z28 had TPI engine
91-92 RS had 305TBI as highest engine unless u ordered the B4C police package in which both TPI engines were availible.

If you get a 92 Z28 it would have to have a 5.7L engine because all 92 Z28's came with that engine.
Nope, they all had the choice of either a 5.0 and 5.7..
ewwww why they have such low horsepower?
Because thats the amount of HP that Camaros put out back then, they werent always at the 300 HP line.

Okay here is another question, for the 92 Camaro's it looks like there were 5 engine options-
RS- LH0 V6 3.1L
RS- L03 V8 5.0L
Z28- LB9 V8 but there are 2 diffrent hp ratings 205, or 230. How do you tell the diffrence because they are both 305's?
Z28- LB9 V8 5.7L
Also I found this at http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camaro_info_db/index.php?act=engine_specs&year=1992 if its easier to read there

The way to tell which LB9 you have is to look at the cats, if you have 2 it is the 230hp 305.

i checked into insurance for me about picking up an iroc as a 2nd car (currently am 15, almost 16) and as a second car and like only 7k miles a year its only 45 extra a month, otherwise it was only like 117 for liability only

to my knowledge the 230hp 305 was part of the G92 option, which can be found on the spid label in the glovebox. the cars are pretty rare if im correct and are bad ass. they came with the 3.42 rear gears and manual transmissions as well as that 230hp 305. and apparently the dual cats which i didnt remember.

the base 305TPI in 91-91 was 220hp. the dual cats gave the cars a 10hp gain to put them up to the 230hp rating. i think the G92 package could be ordered with an automatic as well but im not positive. the package is not too common.

I thought the difference between the two 305's were the cams, I guess for my year anyways. The automatic iroc's got the peanut cam, while the manual Lb9 got the L98 cam. Is this true? Did the stop using that smaller cam in the later model autos?

5.0 = mid-high 14's - low 15's depending on trans
5.7 = low-mid 14's
i'm not positive on those numbers but they should be close.
i know an 87 iroc 5.7/auto tested by muscle car review when it was brand new went 14.88. that was the 220hp 350. by 90-92, the 5.7 had been rated at 245hp.
