I just bought a 1986 HF with 180K miles on it. When I bought is I noticed that when running that the temp gauge would be about half way to hot. Today on the way home it was running closer to 3/4 of the way to hot. Wierd part is it just started getting cold out here. Today it was about 30 degs out.
Any ideas?

Check your thermostat... It could be stuck closed... Although, that is highly unlikely. Is it only getting hot when you sit still or whenever you have the car running (driving or not)?

I drive 30 miles on the freeway. This is when is when I noticed it was running hotter than normal.
Where whould the gauge be? My brother has newer Hondas and thought that 1/2 way was a little hot.

I grabed the lower radiator hose when the car was warm and it was still cold and top one was warm. So I replaced my thermostat and it seems to have helped. It is still going to about 1/2 way on the freeway but not 3/4 any more. I find it hard to belive it is the radiator becuase it is about 4 degrees out the last few days.
This summer I plan on replacing the timing belt and will put a new water pump on too.

Your thermostat might have been stuck shut... Causing the hot water to never leave the motor. You should have fixed the problem with that. :)
