98 regal gs supercharger life

I just bought a 98 regal gs 3800 sc, with 127,000 miles.
I am wondering if anyone can tell me the expected life of the supercharger. What things to look for as far as problems. The original owner said they had no problems with the sc, but have not done anything to it. If it goes, how hard is it to replace? I saw online a rebuilt for 700 dollars, and wondered how difficult it is to replace.
I am just looking for a car to get to work, nothing fancy, and was hoping to get in the 200k miles range out of the car.
I see posts saying you can run the car without the sc, but wonder does that mean, you can 'get home' with it or, does it mean you can still get fair performance, gas milage, etc.
Thank you!

If it's never been done change out the supercharger oil as soon as you can. The Eaton M90 Gen3 blower is very reliable but with mileage can have problems such as snout bearng and seal. If the snout sounds noisy - rattling its a simple fix - coupler. ZZP performance has a replacement M90 Gen 3 for around $600.00. The SC can be replaced DIY in about a days work of work. Its about the equivalent of changing out an upper intake manifold.
It is not recommended to run without the SC because you may get worse gas mileage than with it connected. For example if the SC drive belt breaks you can continue operating the vehicle until you get it replaced.
Good luck and enjoy your Regal GS.
