What year/make/model/engine/etc.... Different years and makes have been known to have different specifications. You did mean torque specs, not engine torque output, right?

i dont know what everyone else is saying up there, but, this is correct. sequence is:
9 5 1 3 7
8 4 2 6 10
as for specific years someone was refering to up there. the b18c5, b16, b18a/b, and b18c5 all have the same specs.
the crankshaft and camgears need to be at TDC with the belt on. to properly tension, rotate the camgears three teeths apart then tighten the tensioner. the belt tension between the two camgears should be tight. the tension between the ctankshaft and exhaust camgear should be no more than an 1 inch deflection.

I'd say your cam caps are over tightened, bad.

the camplates are 20 lbs for the 12mms and 7.2 lbs for the 10 mms.
the sequence is for both the exhaust and intake sides are:
13 9 5 1 3 7 11
14 10 6 2 4 8 12
the timing belt tightening sequence is already mentioned above ;)

so how tight are the cam caps supopsed to be tighten... what is the torque setting for them on a b16a or b18c1....?
superbluecivicsi
11-18-2005, 12:12 PM
the cam caps dont have their own individual bolts. they share them with the cam plates. so the torque setting is used above for both the b18c1 and b16a.

why exactly did you take off the head for in the first place? you should of researched before doing it.
ignition timing is at 16 degrees BTDC.
TDC position for the cam gears for timing belt tightening is up arrows on cam gears facing up with the two lines at a 90 degree angile facing each other.

if you torqued the camplates to specs and floow the 2nd link above, you will be fine. also, dont forget the assembly lube on the camshafts when you put them back in.

you can start the car and drive it, but, you should get a valve adjustment asap. you can also go to your local parts store and buy feeler gauges just to take measurements. if they dont have angle ones, just buy the stright ones and bend tem.

i did the timing... and when i start the car.. it ideling way off... sounds ike.. BLAH BLAH BLAHBLAH.. and the motor moves alot i give it gas and it just SPUTTERS
i thought i did the timing correct...
2 cam gears tdc with linemeant marks directly facing one another
motor at tdc crank pulley marks i have it at the one in the middle... is that right?
maybe i'm using the wrong thing on the block to line it up?....
wat does it look like the thing u are supposed to line up the crank pulley marks too?

all bolts torqued to specs? all timing marks are where they are supposed to be.........both cam gears and crank pulley? you properly tensioned the belt? so how tight is the belt?
this is what the mark looks like. just follow c-speed's direction.

covers? did you remove the crank pulley and lower timing belt cover? then remove the cover. are you looking at the c-speed link????????????????
dizzy order is.

well, if your crank pulley tdc marker is lined up with the pointer on the cover and your camgears are all pointing up with the two lines at a 90 degree angle next to each other, it will look like this:
http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/valveadjust/pics/valveadjust1.jpg
did you visually and physically check the tightness of the belts? if you correctly set cam timing, did you set ignition timing with a timing gun to 16 degrees BTDC?

that is exactly what i did... and it idles like shit... and i rev it up and it sputters....
i even let it idle while moving distributor back and forth... but nothing...
can something else cause this problem? besides timing being off?

what b16 is this on what chassis? causes could be:
vac leaks, uneven compression, low compression, map, tps, iacv, mixing a vac line with fuel line, misfires, ignition timing, cam timing, and valves for a start.
any CELs?

92 b16a on a 95 integra ls...
today i'm gonna check for mixed vac lines with fuel lines... see if that's fuckin it up
also going to try and redo the timing 1 more time... see if maybe i'm off a bit

i ran into a similar problem with yours a few months back when i was putting in my oem camshafts back in my b16. i did not have a torque wrench and over tightened the camplates. i did not put any assembly lube on the camshafts and my camshaft broke in 2 places :( end result was slow cranking, no spark, with a no start.
compression and leakdown if possible. manually see if the crank pulley is still rotating. pull valve cover of to check the camshafts and see if cam timing is fine.
if all else looks good,
vac leaks, uneven compression, low compression, map, tps, iacv, mixing a vac line with fuel line, misfires, ignition timing, cam timing, and valves for a start.
and check to see if you are recieving fuel and spark.
