Hi all, this is my first WIP tread. I haven't done any modeling since I was young. I will try my best to make the paint job of the exterior of the model right. I will also try to make the interior to look good.
Well, so far, I have done the priming. I totally missed a spot on the back bumper with the primer after a sanding. So I will have to reprime it.
I don't know how to post picture on here yet. So when I figure it out, I will post a pic.
Oh, in fact I have spray painted the front bumper and the body with Metallic Red. It turned out pretty well except there is one spot on the door showing a little running of paint. I will have to sand it to make it right. arg....hopefully I won't mess everything up when I sand it.

here is the pic of the primer job. Not a great job I know, especially the back bumper. I am re-priming that piece. As mentioned earlier, I have spray painted the front bumper and the body, I will sand and then put one more coat of paint on them when the work on the back bumper catches up.

Looks like a good start- now, how about posting the pics themselves, instead of thumbnail links?

Hi all, today I made some real progress, but of course, it wasn't perfect. I sanded the body where there were some running of paint. Well, the slightest touch of the sandpaper (1500 grids) went all the way to the primer already. Do you guys have any tips of how to sand the color coat?
Well, now after re-spraying the color coat, the sanded area obviously shows the flaws. If I was a perfectionist, I would strip the paint and re-do the entire thing. However, I am not a perfectionist, and stripping the entire body and re-prime and re-paint the whole body will cost too much money. (another bottle of degreaser, another bottle of primer and another bottle of paint will be another $20-30). If you guys can give me some tips and pointers, I will learn my lesson and do better at my next model kit.
Good news, I did re-prime the back bumper and re-painted it. It looks perfect now. I am waiting on my order of polish and wax to come in from Hobbylink in Japan. In the mean time, I will let the paint to sit for a day or so and put a few coats of clear on it. Although the body is not perfect, I still want to make it shine as much as possible. At least I can try and practice something I have never done before (clear/polish/wax a model).
Oh, I completed the interior too. I am very happy with my masking effort. The two tones(three tones including the little triangle on the head rests) came out pretty well to my standard. Very very little leaks from the masking tape, so it looks good to me. The only thing is that I sill don't know how to make the paint brush mark to disappear on the red area. It looks nasty under direct lighting. Please advise if you can on how to brush paint.
Sorry, I don't know how to direct post pics here on the tread. A little direction will be helpful as well. Thanks.

Hi and welcome mr2union, nice to see that your car is progressing, you say that you can't get rid of the brush strokes in your paint, what sort of paint did you use?, I've found if I need to brush paint anything I tend to use enamels thinned very slightly with some enamel thinner or white spirit/ turpentine substitute, mix it for a couple of minutes then try it out on a scrap part to get the right consistency, let it dry thoroughly then recoat it if you need to. A lot of people use acrylics but I cannot get the hang of them myself but hey that's just me :cwm27:. Search the forum there is bound to be more on this :banghead: subject.

I'm using acrylic paint. As shown in the pics, the red shows a lot of brush marks. The black is actually not too bad. But the flash light made the brush marks also pretty obvious too.
Although these are acrylic paint, I can try to add a little bit of thinner to it in the future. Maybe this will help too.
Update on the progress. I mentioned that I was not going to repaint the body. Well I lied. I stripped the paint and most of the primer off this morning. I'm using Tamiya Lacquer Spray Paint on the enamel white primer, maybe that's why the water-based paint remover doesn't take every bit of primer off by itself. But some slight brushing with a toothbrush and some sandpaper took care of the work. I re-primed the body around noon today. Arg...can't you believe I messed up this prime job again? so I had to strip that off AGAIN and wash and dry and everything. I broke a little bit of the body where the headlight goes on. The broken part should be covered by the light assemble, so I hope it is no big deal. Now it is 3pm, I just re-applied the prime the third time. I'm sure this one is fine cuz third time is a charm.
I will re-paint the body maybe Saturday. I needed to buy another bottle of metallic red spray paint. Hope it will go smoothly from here.
Question: Is it okay if I used acrylic paint to brush paint on the window? I need to paint around the rear window of the car. I read the FAQ, but it only talks about air-brushing the window.
