radiator fan

has anybody wired up the radiator fan up to a switch? is it as simple as finding the hot wire and splicing it up to a power source and a switch with a fuse? There are atleast 3 wires going into the fan unit, anybody know which to splice? will there be any ecu concerns? thanks

i broke the swicth that tells the ecu to turn the fan on the other day an i had to hook the fan up to a togle swicth ok ..........

the swicth is close to your oil filter right above your oil sender swicth it's got two wire's going to it hard to see got to be at the right angle kind of there's an all black wire an not sure on the other color but those are the wire's you need how come you want to do this mod?

for some reason my fan isn't comming on at all, and in turn my temp are rising if im not moving. i just replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses cause i bust one of those this past wkd, and it cost me some money that i dont have. i just want it to come on like normal but since it isn't i have to take matters into my own hands. so what do i hook up the second wire too? is it a ground? i was just going to splice them cause the wires going into the back of the fan unit run from the battery side into two relay type thingies, then atop of the radiator to the the back of the right fan. i was going to attack somewhere along there. why you go underneath the car? thanks again

my fault i have a 88 civic but i also have a b18a sorry if i lean over my car towards the middle of the engine i can see my oil filter the swicth is next to it a lil bit up an towards the right cant miss it on the back of the cylinder wall if you pull the wire's out there an touch them toghter the fan will come on. i broke the swicth messing with the oil sender trying to hook up an oil presure gauge.it works that swicth is a dealer part $60 bucks so i had to hook up a toggle swicth to i find one in the junk yard

I found what you described,with the two wires going in, but my question is how the hell can you splice or run anything to them, that place is really hard to get at. i'm going to look at a schmatic to see the wiring layout of the fan and figure out from there where to do the work this weekend hopefully. i'll post after i get the fan working again.

yeah i didnt mean to do it but i broke the pongs trying to take the oil sender swicth out but if touch thos wires toghter the fan will come on

i did that with my a/c condensor fan....

is it going to cause problems leaving the fan on all the time? because the say the cool the motor the better right.:bloated:

I think I figured it out. I think I need a new thermal fan switch. the switch that goes inside the engine wall that when it gets to a certain temp. it turns on the fan, to the best of my knowledge thats what it does. if that's the case, I'm just gonna take it to a shop and have them switch it out cause i jacked my car up, and really couldn't find a way to get at the switch/wiring and see what i'm doing at the same time. rather have it come on when its supposed to than have it ghetto rigged. thanks for all the input.
