Need a new clutch

It's come time to change the clutch in my 94 Escort GT and I'm wonderig if an aftermarket high friction clutch would be better then a regular OEM? I don't have any plans of really putting out a crap load of power but I do like to race here and there off the line and what not. I also want something that'll last for a good long time, I'd rather not pay $500 for a new clutch though either. Any ideas?

Get an aftermarket. I'm currently driving on a Spec stage 1 (30% stronger) on my '90 1st gen Escort, and the thing is WAY better than stock. It grabs at the same point, but much much harder. 7k miles on it so far, with many a good dump, and it's acting just as good as the day I had it. Cost 200 for it. Stock would've cost 100. Yes, the price is higher, but the feel and performance are worth it.

UnexplodedCow is right. Considering the amount of labor it takes to put in a clutch, an extra 100 bucks for a better clutch is well worth the cost. Besides, $100 doesn't buy much these days. Go for the better clutch.

If you don't run your car really hard most of the time the Exedy clutch will work just fine. You got a good deal on it at $105 since a comparable clutch at the parts store would run about $190. Sometimes I'm too quick to agree with people. My fault.

You got me all worried trying to find a spec stage 1 clutch and figuring out an excuse as to why I had to return that exedy. I try to not run my car hard at all because I don't like buying new parts because I beat on my car or paying for more gas because I saved 3 minutes getting somewhere. Doesn't always happen though which is why I was wondering about maybe getting something more racey.

Exedy will do better than something like a Zoom, I think. I didn't want OEM grade, though....as I have a mildly modified engine, bored .040" over with a milled head, and I didn't like the stock feel anyway. It was too mushy, with no snap when it was dumped. All stage 1 clutches were too expensive vs. the Spec, which is why I went with it. It can be driven normally, it's not a full on race clutch...more of a sport clutch.

As for taking the Exedy back, just tell 'em it's not what you wanted...always worked for me. Oh, by the way, DO NOT get a clutch from Advance. I killed one in two weeks....the pressure plate warped itself, cocked the clutch plate on my flywheel, and I was stuck in the middle of the road.

Exedy makes the stock clutches under the name daikin(something like that)
