What can happen when you use "regular" gas in a 99 (or other v-6) Lexus?

They will ping & performance will go down. The knock sensors will constantly pull timing & try to add it back so you don't get any damage done, but they will ping. If you can't hear it & it acts normal, you'll be fine. If you can hear it, I wouldn't run it like that for years, but no damage should happen for a few years unless you just drive the shit out of the car.

Thanks, ToysRMe. So far, no pings or anything abnormal from using regular gas. I don't drive the Lexus hard anyway. (I also use reg. in my 1990 Camry V6-being the cheap SOB that I am-and haven't had problems in 205k miles).

I heard that using regular gas could screw up catalytic converters on some cars; just curious.

Your '90 Camry has the 2vz-fe.
The entire VZ family is known for being low tuned & deonation resistant & would most likely run fine on 80 octane gas, if they made it.

Raw gas kills cat's & o2's. The higher the octane, the more can go unburnt, causing higher emessions, higher exhaust temps & killing the cat.

High octane should only be used when specified by the OEM. (It's not just a waste of money)

Reset the ECU on the Lexus. Pull the EFI fuses out overnight.
