Headlights won't turn off

I own a 1997 Dodge Neon Sport 4-dr 16 V DOHC. A couple of days ago my highbeam indicator lit up on the instrument cluster while I was driving despite the fact that I had not turned the highbeams on. I noticed shortly after this that a faint smell of burning plastic or rubber filled the inside of my car. When I parked the car, the headlights would not turn off, no matter what I did. Now everytime I park I have to disconnect my battery to get the lights to turn off. I also smell the very faint odor of burning plastic when I drive anywhere.
What could be the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help!

remove your radio to access your daytime running module and either disconnect it or replace it keep in mind it does control your high beam indicator so it wont work if left disconected

I'm glad we don't have DRL's in the US.

Sure enough, that's what it was. I removed it and have no intention of replacing it.
Thanks.
