Background:
So i've finally decided an airbrush would be nice to have. I havn't picked one yet because i've got to sort out the air-source. I wheel my 1:1, so an onboard aircompressor to reinflate the tires as always gotten my attention, but they usually require a tank as well. I do not want to drive around town with a 3-5 gal tank of compressed air. it just seems wrong.
My idea:
Mount a compressor on my truck. Rig up all the power and airline. Use a quick disconnect to a portable airtank that i will only carry with me only when on the trail. When at home I would like to use the airtank to supply an airbrush, then carry the tank back to the driveway to refill it if empty. Is this possible/ a decent idea?
the compressor would probably be a viair (http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/viair.htm) paired with a 2 gal or so tank

Very possible idea, and not a bad one at that.

This is how I stated airbrushing. Used a Propane tank for barbecue with a regulator. Now I use a compressor.

This is how I still do it. Works great!

Personally, I use an old fridge compressor hooked up to an air tank. Works great, and is completely silent. Got the tank at a surplus sale for about $25. Compressor from an appliance repair place $20. Misc fittings and other stuff $20-30 (I had the regulator and gauges given to me...)
Been going strong for about 4 years now. No problems/complaints.
