I haven't had the pleasure yet to see if my spec can hang w/a 5.0. Anyone tried this yet?

Are you talking about the new 5.0 GT's? Because those would stomp a Sentra, they put out 300HP and 320TQ. I would say the new V6's are more in your league, but probably only with mods, as they have a 0-60 of like mid 6's, compared to the Spec's mid 7's, and put out 210HP and 240 TQ, and are rear wheel drive. Older V6 mustangs though you could walk over because they only had something like 190HP, and only 140 or so before the redesign, and maybe the old V8's, but only with heavy modding because even though they only had 210-240HP, they had 285-300TQ (depending on year and 4.6 and 5.0 engines)

um.... lol all i have to say is... and lemme say it loud. NO! v6 mustangs are NO competition for the specs. Let me repeat that when I say NO competition, i mean NO competition. Not unless you put some money in them and even still they are huge POS's in my opinion. Okay... mustang gt's? Yeah they will drag the hell out of a spec, but if you want to see something funny, race one on a windy backroad and see who wins.

Naw, these facts are all wrong. The Spec can hang with any stock 5.0 stang. from 89-95. Those stangs only run about a 15.2.
96-98 were a bit faster with a new 4.6 V8 at 15.0.
And 1999 and up are just too fast for a Spec. They easily do low 14's.
The Spec would kill ANY V6 stang, tho.

lol... please explain how they are pos's. a spec would need mods to beat one hands down, and the new 4.0L 6 cylinders are FAR from crap, the 3.8 V6 that has been used forever and in the previous models, is actually the base of a formula 1 engine, and is still used in many cars today. and you want to say they are a POS?? they are stout engines, and can handle very high HP applications, like the buick grand national stock would dust a spec no problem.
people just look down on them because the obviously much more powerful 300hp V8 engine is in the upgraded versions of mustangs, which causes people to falsely look down on the V6. put some facts behind why they suck, and if you think just cause the mustang is built differently it has bad handling, you need to get your facts straight. a newer gen Cobra's handling is almost equal in comparison with an STI, with the STI barely outperforming it. spec's really have nothing on 5.0's or even the V6 engines save a 6 speed transmission

What's wrong with the mustang? LOL 1st thing: AMERICAN MADE. The mustangs are cheaply made cars... LOL ford. I don't care what you tell me I just hate american made cars. Hands down they can't compete with the class and quality of imported cars. Facts? It's common fucking knowledge practically. Grant it there are some nice american made cars, but I think Mustangs are way to common, everyone has one, and they are in general cars with no class and if I had a dollar for every ford I saw dead on the side of the road I wouldn't have to work and pay for my education. (MYYYYYYYYYYYY Opinion). go ahead and trash my car if you want. I like it. I wouldn't buy a mustang cobra to save my fucking life.

wo, settle down.
I'd think you could take a stock 5.0 in a race, and most definantley in a highway race. they are easy to mod though, and I t's hard to find a stock one.
As for the 4.6 I've raced a 97' auto, and It didn't pull more then 2 lengths to 80mph. After 80mph I stayed the same distance away till 110mph. So in that respect I think you could take a 97' auto with a 4.6, but not the manuals.
The newest v8 mustangs even autos I think would run you into the ground. As for the new 6 cylinders i haven't raced em'.

you just said absolutely nothing that proves anything to your point.
i pointed out that the american made v6 engine which you said is such a piece of shit, is actually one of the most reliable and strong engines that has ever come out of any countries engine production. give me facts not OMG AMERICANS CARS R SO BAD!!!!! THEY ARE WAY TO COMMON!!!!, mainly because the people who grew up here had the mustangs, chargers, nova's , camaro's etc etc as the sports car of their dreams when they were young. and frankly the people who are middle aged or older who buy them, really dont give a shit what anyone thinks about the car they buy, just that its the car they want. back in the day they were excellent cars not topped by any car imported, BIG BLOCKS RULED SORRY TO SAY.
common knowledge and facts are pretty different. you are immediately assuming since its american its a terrible car, when the 3.8 V6 engine used in many cars models, is as long lasting as any japenses or european car. im not a domestic advocate or an import advocate, i love all cars, but closing your mind to the fact that an american car can be reliable and fast is immature, most people just go with AMERICAN CARS SUCK just cause its the cool thing to do
if i had a dollar for every honda i saw on the road id be just as rich as someone who got one for every ford they saw, so please calm down open up your ears and clean out your eyes. im giving you facts, and your giving me nothing but angry non-backed statements about how american cars are terrible
im not trashing the spec, its a fun car to drive, but it obviously cant compete with a newer gen 5.0 or even slightly older ones. and the V6's are not trash at all, just not as fast stock as the V8 thats my 2cents

lol i romped on a 5.0 litre stang and pulled his ass pretty good, needless to say i was very surprised, the car i was working on before this was a 1966 mustang gt and i had a 5.0 engine that was going in it and i thought it would be a monster, but lo and behold i spanked it in the sentra, the new mustangs will crush the sentra though

well like any older engine they are just outdated and unefficient lol good 0-60 times was like 9 seconds for some "muscle" cars
now a days though 5.0's are so easily modded, stroked, turbo'd etc etc people run 6's
a modded 5.0 you would need boost to hang with no doubt, and the newer engines will stomp a spec
however the older 80's early 90's 5.0's and stuff definately a spec could take

Dude, ANY V6 stang would lose to a Spec except the 2005+ models. Those should run about a 15.2 matching the older 5.0's.

naturally, i wasnt trying to disprove that , i said the newer ones would win not the older ones, i was just trying to prove that the 3.8 V6 engine that was in the older ones, is one of the strongest and long lasting engines out there. as zach so elegant put it, they are just big POS's,
... pos's that can run for 250k+ miles, and can withstand lots of horsepower , not to mention the engine is the basis for an F1 car, which do 0-100 in 3 seconds, and also it came in the buick grand national in the 80's with a turbocharger, that car stock ran low 13's
definately not a pos at all
