I just got a 1987 Grand Marc for my g/f and the thing is dogging me. It needed an alternator and batt---fine. Done. Now it stalls and the Overdrive won't engage and for my first Ford purchase, I'm quite dissapointed.
I'm hoping someone can offer some suggestions as to how I can alleviate this problem to allow me to broaden my horizons from the almighty Chevy-lol.
I tried Trans-medic and Lucas tranny-in-a-bottle but to no avail---
I then changed the filter and fluid--still won't budge---any clue?

1987 - original tranny? Probably pooched the OD band, which means time for a new tranny. Pour all the gunk you want down it, it ain't gonna help (unfortunately).
As for the stalling - could be anything. New plugs, wires, and distributor cap?
Could be something as simple as a vacuum line as well - a 16 year old line isn't too plyable anymore, and can crack, or even 'fall' off a part.
Do let a mechanic take a look at it - an inspection is free :).
BTW - check out www.crownvic.net and post for help in the 5.0L technical forum.
