Front end growl/grind

I did a search on this but could not find anything. I have a '92 Jimmy with the 4.3L. The truck has developed a low pitch growl/grind when driving at moderate to faster sppeds. The noise gets slightly louder when you steer slightly to the left when changing lanes. Am I correct to look at the wheel bearings first to correct this problem? I did raise the front end to check front wheel rotation. The wheels do turn without any resistance. Thank you very much in advance for your advice and opinions.

It was the wheel bearings. The noise is now gone and my Jimmy is happy again.

I had a growling noise like that once, it went away when I got my ex to finally let go of the bumper, no matter how hard i steered in any direction... just got louder and louder...
