I've got a problem with my 92 Grand am SE. The keyswitch will not go to the on position after starting the car, it just shuts off. To keep it running you have to start the car, and relase the key a little bit, and then pull out. The problem is, its VERY VERY easy to shut the car off, and sometimes the radio, and heater doesn't work because of the position of the key. Also the ABS light is on, if the key is not in the right spot.

Do I need a new lock cylinder and key set, or is there something else I can do to fix it? Where can I get one the cheapest at?

hey ram1985custom. You need a new cylinder. the cheapest would be the zone or advance auto parts, but still not to cheap. i tried to post the link but i think they've made it where stuff cant be linked to from other sites.

Go buy an uncoded switch and take it to a locksmith and they can code the key to your orig key. That way you dont have to carry around 2 keys. (Yes Im a locksmith)

92 grand am you have to have 2 keys anyway, one for ignition and one for locks. Seems GM didn't discover the japanese way of having one key until around 99 or so...
