I replaced the water pump on my 98 3 liter and it was a major pain! The engine is the same and I would assume the process is similar. You have to support the passenger side of the motor, remove the engine support brackets and take the front cover off the engine. It is a good time to also replace the timing belt, as you have to take it off anyway. Get a book and follow the instructions! Plan on it taking you most of a day at least. Once you have done it, it is a lot faster. If you can afford it, I would get someone else to do it!

While you're in there. You should go ahead and replace the Cam and crank seals. On the older 3.0 engines, they have a history of going bad and leaking oil. Major oil........ They are not difficult to change once you have all the other stuff off.
