Well when you turn the cruise on as usual, the light comes on but goes right out and the cruise does not work at all. I looked for vacuum leaks and could not find any, my only thought is I gues it is called the servo ( box in front of fues box on driver side ) I don't know what it could be. It worked fine one day and the next it went down the crapper. Any help would be appretiated.

Thanks,
Mike

There is a recall on that truck for cruise. It may not fix it but maybe it could. I do know ford does not have the parts yet but they are supposed to unplug it til then. They have been catching on fire even after truck put to bed in garage. Better stop by ford.

Yea, my 96 has been recalled too. Haven't done it yet cuz they do NOT have the parts and want me to make 2 trips (my gas & my time) for something that never should have happened.
1. to disconnect my cruise
2. to hook it up the right way.
That means I do not have cruise til they get the parts. If I could find a wiring diagram, I would rewire it myself. Really shouldn't be that hard.

Think about this - Ford has been making motor vehicles longer that anyone on this planet - why would they even consider leaving the cruise HOT with the key OFF (out of the ignition)? To save a buck?? Anything electrical I have ever wired - is wired so it goes OFF WITH THE KEY. We are not talking rocket science here - power ON continues to drain the battery.
ps. It is also a fire hazard.

If you havent already, check all the fuses(interior fuse panel, and power distribution center under the hood) . You mentioned checking the vacum. Do you have a vacum servo, or an electronic servo. I think they only used the vacum servo`s on the diesels on the late models. If you have the solid state servo, it doesnt use a vacum signal for reference. Check the cable, at the throttle body end(the servo end is a booger to get to with it on the truck). The cable stops on the ends, are crimped on, and are bad about popping off, or the cable breaking off right at the end. Take it loose at the throtle body and check it.
For Gumby_ct: Ive heard of this recall, but am not familiar with the particulars. Seems like it had something to do with the brake pressure switch. If you`ll tell me which component is at fault, or post the recall notice, i may have the diagram you need(there are quite a few relating to the cruise ) , and i can send it email. Im fairly new to the forum, and not familiar with all the options yet. How could i post the diagram? Good luck to all

The recall notice is 05s28
Where they say...
...speed control deactivation switch may overheat, smoke, or burn, which could result in an underhood fire. May occur ... even if the speed control is NOT in use.

They note the parts (a fused wiring harness) will NOT be available until Nov. 2005 (exact date not given).
This recall covers a wide variety from 1994-2002.
They also offer www.ownerconnection.com
to check your VIN for a recall or locate a dealer. The details of the recall are not given at that site.

**** Safety Recall 05s28 Cruise Control Fire UPDATE ****
Original SAFETY Recall Notice sent - Sept. 2005
Replacement parts scheduled for - Nov. 2005

Yesterday I received a postcard notifying me -
...the availability of service parts has been delayed until Feb. 2006
...your dealer is still authorized to .... disconnect the speed control system on your vehicle.
::note sarcasm:: it can ONLY start on Fire while parked in my driveway with the keys in my pocket. What is the rush?? ::close sarcasm::

Anyone know another way to correct this? Wiring diagram??
Thanks,
